The comic, 81, appeared on HuffPost Life this week and after making jokes about Rosa Parks and Anne Frank, she made jokes about Chaz Bono, the transgender son of Cher and the late Sonny Bono.

Accuses singing legend of 'pandering to the fags/dykes with much discretionary spending money'

The rabidly anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church said in a bizarre press release today that it plans to protest 'that bundle of confusion going by the name of Cher' at the singer's Kansas City concert on 31 May.

The group accuses Cher of compounding her 'sins' by 'pandering to the fags/dykes (read: those with discretionary spending money).'

It also launches deeply personal attacks on people in the life of the Oscar, Grammy and Emmy winning entertainer including her mother, her ex-husbands and her children - especially her transgender son Chaz Bono.

The longtime gay icon is still going strong as she closes in on 70

As she turns 68 today, Cher isn't slowing down - she's still revving up.

The Oscar, Emmy and Grammy award-winning legend who has had at least one number one single in each of the last six decades is currently touring the US with her Dressed to Kill Tour.

Last week she announced additional dates and fans are hoping this current show will stretch on and on as her previous 'farewell tour' did before finally ending after three years in 2005.

US wig aficionado Cher has got some advice for Eurovision Song Contest winner Conchita Wurst in the wig department.

It needs improving.

At concert, singer invites Rosie O'Donnell and Liza Minnelli onstage to sing back-up Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Cyndi Lauper, opening up for Cher on the current Dressed to Kill tour, decided to share the spotlight over the weekend while performing her classic hit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

She was joined on state at the Barclays Center in New Jersey first by Rosie O'Donnell who she toured with several years ago on the True Colors tour benefiting LGBTI youth.

Then O'Donnell pointed out that there was another gay icon in the audience - a woman whose mother (Judy Garland) was the original gay icon - Miss Liza Minnelli.

One of Kathy Griffin's best friends is Cher and another one is Gloria Vanderbilt.

So is it possible for this one-time D-lister to still be starstruck? Apparently so.

This week during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Griffin claims to have lost her composure when encountering Madonna at The Grammys this year.

After five losses, Griffin finally won the Best Comedy Album Grammy which she accepted during the non-televised portion of the evening.

The only child of Cher and the late Sonny Bono opens up on RuPaul's Drag Race in appearance with his maternal grandmother

Transgender activist and actor Chaz Bono dropped by RuPaul's Drag Race to help contestants learn to conduct a celebrity interview and in the process, opened up a bit about himself.

'You know, there was a number of years where I knew I was transgender but was afraid to do anything about it,' Bono told one of the contestants.

But once Bono, 45, did decide to transition, he shared his story by writing a book called Becoming Chaz and being the focus of a documentary of the same name.

Global superstar will recieve the Vanguard award, joining past winners Cher, Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Aniston

Singing and acting superstar Jennifer Lopez is to record a top gay honor from GLAAD.

The Vanguard award is presented to artists who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBTI community.

Past recipients include Cher, Whoopi Goldberg, Liza Minnelli, Antonio Banderes and Drew Barrymore.

It is being awarded to Lopez as she is one of the executive producers of ABC Family’s The Fosters.

The actor and comic mentioned how Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry - who Mapa worked for on Housewives and the sitcom Some of My Best Friends - once said to him that on paper, his career was not supposed to exist 'and that it only existed through sheer force of will.'

Becomes one of the few LGBTI celebrity contestants to take part over 18 seasons

Diana Nyad is trading in her swimsuit for a ball gown.

The champion swimmer, who inspired many when she completed her historic swim from Cuba to Florida last summer, was introduced Tuesday (4 March) as one of the celebrity contestants on ABC's Dancing With the Stars.

The show begins its 18th season - there are two seasons each year - on 17 March.

It was the age of 64 and on her fifth attempt that Nyad swam 103 miles in 53 hours from Cuba to Florida.

She did so without a shark cage, flippers or a wetsuit which had never been done before.

British singer says it's a 'no' after Olympics organizers came to her after Cher rejected performing at the opening ceremony

British pop star Ellie Goulding is refusing to step foot in Russia because of Putin’s anti-gay laws.

The singer rejected an opportunity to perform at the opening ceremony for the Sochi Winter Olympics next week.

‘It’s probably a "no" for Russia,’ Goulding told The Hollywood Reporter.

She said she would be supporting Cher, who also turned down a request to perform at the Games.

When Cher turned it down last September, she said: ‘I immediately said no. I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there’

Ellen DeGeneres has fronted the first trailer for next year’s Academy Awards.

The gay comic stars in the promo that sees the host and 250 tuxedo-clad men and women dancing to Fitz and The Tantrums’ track ‘The Walker’.

Bridesmaids director Paul Feig said he wanted the advert’s message to be ‘everyone gets to go to the Oscars this year.’

DeGeneres added:"Paul Feig has a reputation of being hilarious and nice and smart and I thought this was a great idea.

Singer says some friends made this beefcake buffet for song Take it Like a Man as 'a present'

Cher knows her gay fan base exceptionally well.

On Wednesday (20 November), the ageless star tweeted out some fresh meat for those fans - make that fresh beefcake.

'Some friends made me a present for Take it Like a Man,' the icon wrote on Twitter along with a link to a YouTube video.

The video, titled Take it Like a Man 7th Heaven Remix, features an endless array of perfectly buff and handsome dudes wearing very little doing things like washing a car with each other's bodies and frolicking on a beach.

'My gay following has kept me alive when no one else came to see me'

At 67, Cher will once again turn back time and hit the road.

The gay icon announced today (23 September) that she will be kicking off her Dressed to Kill tour in March with a concert in Phoenix, Arizona, and will go on to perform in such cities as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Boston and New York City.

The tour announcement comes in conjunction with the release on Tuesday (24 September) of Cher's first new album in 11 years titled Closer to the Truth.

Cher expects to see plenty of her gay fans at the various stops.

Openly gay Emmy winner says  in stream of consciousness post: 'I'm tickled pink'

Out actor Leslie Jordan returns to series television this fall with a role in American Horror Story: Coven, the FX franchise from Glee producer Ryan Murphy.

It's not known what role Jordan will play. He won an Emmy for his recurring role as Beverly Leslie on Will & Grace, has appeared in the stage and film versions of Sordid Lives and Southern Baptist Sissies and was recently in the feature film The Help.
