Jennifer Tyrrell takes on Boys Scouts of America for its anti-gay policies

Jennifer Tyrrell had never before been on an airplane.

But she flew from Bridgeport, Ohio, to Los Angeles on Friday to appear at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday (21 April) where she nearly stole the show from the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White and Cher with her heartfelt speech about being ousted as a den mother by the Boy Scouts of America because she is a lesbian.

Presents transgender son Chaz Bono with Stephen F. Kolzak Award

US Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack had already given a very moving tribute to stepson Chaz Bono at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (21 April).

She talked about how Chaz 'meant the world' to his dad, the late Sonny Bono, who she said was 'watching from heaven.'

'Chaz had the courage to follow his heart and his convictions and that's what true leaders do,' Bono Mack said.

Then, after a video presentation about Chaz, a woman wearing a dramatic afro wig  a wig came onto the stage unannounced.

Star-studded LA ceremony includes appearances by Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White and surprise presenter Cher

The 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles were a star-studded affair on Saturday (21 April) night with appearances by Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White, Benicio del Toro, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Josh Hutcherson.

But no star shined brighter than Cher who shocked the audience when she walked onto the stage at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel to present her son, Chaz Bono, with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award. [See related story].

Youngest recipient ever of Vanguard Award for work promoting equality

Josh Hutcherson, whose film The Hunger Games star has dominated the box office for the past three weekends, will be honored for his off-screen efforts next week by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

GLAAD will present the actor with its Vanguard Award which is presented to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.

Bono says he is 'truly honored' by award given for helping to promote LGBT equality

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation announced Tuesday (10 April) that Chaz Bono will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at its Los Angeles GLAAD Media Awards Ceremony later this month.

Bono, the only child of Cher and the late Sonny Bono, was a popular contestant on ABC's Dancing With the Stars last fall and in a pair of recent documentaries chronicled his transition from a female named Chastity to a man named Chaz.

Gay singer Johnny Robinson and the London Gay Men's Chorus to raise funds for charity

Gay X Factor finalist Johnny Robinson and the London Gay Men's Chorus are performing in the Canary Wharf underground tube station this Friday to raise funds for the Samaritans.

Both acts will perform a number of uplifting tracks voted for by the public during the Samaritans' nation wide survey of Britain's favourite feel-good songs.

Gay icon victim of death hoax that fooled Kim Kardashian among others

It has often been joked that in the aftermath of a nuclear war, only two things would survive: cockroaches and Cher.

But plenty of folks - including Kim Kardashian - believed a death rumor on Twitter Thursday night about the 65-year-old gay icon. Cher is quite active on Twitter but has not posted any tweets since Jan. 22.

Helping to propel the hoax was when Kardashian sent out this tweet to her 12.8 million followers on Twitter: 'Did I just hear Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG.'

Openly gay Australian pop guru Molly Meldrum was released from hospital and transferred to rehab

Openly gay Aussie pop guru Ian 'Molly' Meldrum, friends with stars such as Kylie, Madonna and Cher, was transferred from the Alfred hospital in Melbourne to the Epworth Rehabilitation Centre late Thursday night.

The rehab facility, situated close to his Richmond home, will play an important part in Meldrum's recovery. He is still suffering from post-traumatic amnesia as well as his sustained injuries after a critical fall from a ladder at home before Christmas.

The Dancing With the Stars alum had been on a holiday ski trip in Colorado with his stepmother, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack, her husband Connie Mack and Chaz's half-brother Chesare Bono.

Chaz Bono splits from Jennifer Elia after more than a decade together

Television viewers saw them get engaged just last month on the documentary Being Chaz but it was confirmed today that Chaz Bono and Jennifer Elia have split up.

Bono's publicist, Howard Bragman, tells TMZ.com: 'They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection toward one another. No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time.'

Madonna told the Sunday Herald Sun that she has "always adored Molly and I'm praying around the clock.
