Ministers and MPs are debating turning the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft, located beneath Parliament, into a ‘multi-faith prayer room’ in order to conduct same-sex marriages

A Labour MP has submitted a proposal for a Westminster chapel to conduct same-sex marriages.

According to The Telegraph, Labour MP and gay marriage supporter Chris Bryant introduced the idea that the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft be turned into ‘multi-faith prayer room’, which would open the door for ministers belonging to religious denominations such as Quakers and Liberal Jews to conduct same-sex marriages.

Welsh Secretary David Jones comment gay couples ‘clearly’ cannot raise children has sparked outrage throughout LGBT Britain.

‘I regard marriage as an institution that has developed over many centuries, essentially for the provision of a warm and safe environment for the upbringing of children, which is clearly something that two same-sex partners can’t do,’ he told ITV Wales’ Face To Face program.

A gay member of parliament has responded to the Welsh Secretary David Jones’ controversial comments on gay parents.

In a controversial interview on Welsh television, he said gay couples ‘clearly’ could not raise children.

‘I regard marriage as an institution that has developed over many centuries, essentially for the provision of a warm and safe environment for the upbringing of children, which is clearly something that two same-sex partners can’t do,’ Jones said.

The dark clouds which have been hanging ominously over this year’s troubled World Pride event in London finally broke today (7 July), but participants marched on despite the heavy showers.

Although the parade had been turned into a procession with only walking groups and no cars, buses or floats, thousands of people from LGBT organizations, charities, unions and political groups put on a brave face to process through the UK capital’s center.
