Considering the BBC driving show is the most watched factual TV programme in the world, it would be a huge step towards visual representation for LGBTI people on television.

But there are those who don't think Perkins, who also presents The Great British Bake Off with comedy partner Mel Giedroyc, should take the driving seat.

Jeremy Clarkson has apologized for a photo of him sleeping on a plane which was posted to his Twitter account in which someone is holding a sign calling him a ‘gay c*nt’

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has apologized after a photo of him sleeping on a plane labeling him a ‘gay c*nt’ was posted to his Twitter account.

The photo was accompanied by the caption ‘Sadly, I fell asleep on the plane.’

Clarkson deleted the photo and tweeted, ‘I have deleted my last tweet and would like to apologize profusely to anyone who I upset while I was asleep.’

It is unclear whether Clarkson tweeted the photo himself or if someone took advantage of his sleeping to post the photo to his account.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan magazine, the original American Idol winner attempted to explain where the unfounded rumors could stem from.

‘People think “Oh, she’s been single for too long”,’ she said. ‘That’s kind of an insult to the gay community.
