Accenture named as Britain’s best employer in annual list compiled by UK’s leading gay rights organization

Multinational management consultancy and tech firm Accenture has been named the top employer for gay people in Britain.

Accenture tops the 2013 Workplace Equality Index, compiled by gay rights organization Stonewall.

Gentoo, a housing company based in Sunderland, north east England comes second and the Co-operative, which provides a range of services from food retail to funerals, comes third.

Trans activists in Jakarta say the police did nothing to protect them from the Islamic extremists who broke-up their festival this week

Trans activists in Indonesia have spoken out about the lack of protection they get from police in the face of threats from Islamic extremists.

Earlier this week a transgender festival in Jakarta was stopped by FPI (Front Pembela Islam, the Islamic Defenders Front), one witness reported that the Islamic extremists wielded sticks to threaten the transgender women at the event.

Britain's Got Talent entrants to take part in Pride parade

Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists The Showbears will be lending some of their sparkle to Manchester Pride in northern England.

The UK TV reality show stars will be there as part of the Co-operative Group’s entry at the event on Saturday (25 August).

They will join 150 members of the Co-operative’s award winning LGBT employee network Respect in a vibrant procession through the city center, home to the company’s head office.

Hundreds of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride events take place around the world every year. From small groups of people in a community hall to those on the scale of a big music festival with hundreds of thousands of people attending, each one has something in common. They promote equality rights, increase visibility of the LGBT community, build a stronger community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.

Rock of Ages and X Factor star jokes he would give MPs a 'big slap' if he was leader

Rock of Ages and X Factor star Shayne Ward has spoken out for gay marriage.

In an interview with the Co-operative's LGBT network Respect, the British singer said everyone should be able to get married.

Known for his hot body and smooth vocals, Ward joked if he was made leader of the UK government then he ‘would give them all a big slap’.

He said: ‘It is disgusting people are so against people wanting to be happy.

After many festivals cancel, The Co-Operative is sponsoring 15 UK Gay Prides

British company The Co-Operative is sponsoring 15 gay pride events this summer after many feared cancellation from lack of funds.

Organisers of pride festivals across the UK were anxious they had to battle against the London Summer Olympics being the sponsors’ focus for 2012.

Bristol Pride boss Daryn Carter told Gay Star News: ‘It’s been a real struggle. We’ve had to be creative. People say to us that they don’t have any money but can they do something else.

Activists defy anti-gay laws in Iran and Russia to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Activists in Iran, one of the most homophobic countries in the world, braved persecution today (17 May) by publicly unfurling a rainbow flag to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO).

Campaigners in the Muslim state's capital Tehran also distributed leaflets and flew multi-colored balloons to raise awareness of LGBT rights.

Accountants Ernst & Young are Britain’s best employers for gay people but even the secret spy service, MI5, makes the grade.

That’s according to the 2012 Workplace Equality Index list by leading British lesbian, gay and bisexual campaign organization Stonewall.

New home for LGBT retired people in Spain could be open as early as 2014 in suburb of Madrid

Madrid could soon be the location of the first retirement home targeted at lesbians, gays bisexuals and transgender people in Spain, aiming to overcome homophobia against older people.

A gay and lesbian non-governmental organisation, have already found a site in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, a Madrid suburb, which they can use for the new retirement complex.
