Chemical giant Bayer is refusing to pay the gay widower of an employee a survivors’ pension despite their 2008 Connecticut same-sex marriage

A Connecticut gay man is suing the Bayer Corporation after it refused to pay him survivors’ benefits after his husband died.

Bayer claims they do not owe Gerald Passaro any money despite his marriage to Thomas Buckholz, an employee of Bayer for over 20 years who legally married Passaro in Connecticut in November of 2008.

They had been together for 13 years prior to their marriage.

US trans activist and author Janet Mock has written an open letter of support to a trans teenager being held in prison without charges

US transgender author and activist Janet Mock has written an open letter to a transgender teenage girl being held in an adult prison without charges.

The girl, given the name Jane Doe by the media because her real name cannot be disclosed as she is a minor, is reportedly being held in a Connecticut adult facility without any charges being pressed against her.

Doe wrote a letter to Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy pleading for her release.

Danbury High student Nasir Fleming was cheered by his fellow students when he took out the title as Prom Queen at his school dance on Friday night – becoming the first ever male at the school to take the title

Things went wild in a good way when openly gay Danbury, Connecticut teen Nasir Fleming was named Prom Queen on Friday night – becoming the first male Prom Queen in the school’s history.

Nasir, who had also been nominated for Prom King, was cheered and applauded by his fellow students from Danbury High School as he accepted the tiara at the school’s dance at the Matrix Center on Friday night.

Nasir said he wanted to be Prom Queen to support transgender equality even though he is not transgender himself.

A retired United Methodist Church minister in New York will not be prosecuted for officiating the wedding of his gay son, the church announced Monday (10 March)

Thomas Ogletree, 80, calls presiding over the wedding of his son in October 2012 'an act of pastoral faithfulness and fatherly love.'

The wedding announcement appeared in The New York Times leading to a complaint being filed against Ogletree who is is a former dean of the Yale Divinity School.

A 46-year-old Connecticut man admitted he planned to ruin his sister's holiday by throwing a smoke bomb at her wife's home, making them think they were being shot at and 'freak out'

A man was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill his gay sister on Wednesday (25 December).

Gordon Bissonnette, 46, from Plainville, Connecticut, was reported to police by his terrified mother Clelie in the early hours of Christmas morning.

She claimed her son had threatened to murder her if she invited her daughter Corinne to the festivities.

Her other son, Brian, also went to the police station and played eight voicemails from Gordon for investigators to hear.

Eighteen-year-old suspect allegedly told police he and victim were attacked by two men wearing hooded sweatshirts

An 18-year-old American football player is charged with fatally stabbing his 27-year-old male lover.

Tarence Mitchell, captain of Bloomfield High School's football team, is accused of jabbing a steak knife, five times, in Ronald Taylor, Jr. The victim pulled the knife from his back, but died later from his injuries.

Bloomfield is located in the New England state Connecticut.

A Connecticut gay couple will stand trial in an attempt to clear their names after two of nine boys they adopted claimed they abused them

Glastonbury, Connecticut gay couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth have chosen to stand trial over child abuse allegations in order to clear their names.

Harasz and Wirth had been raising nine adopted boys alongside two of Harasz’ own biological children with their mother when two of the boys, aged 5 and 15 alleged that they had been abused by the men.

The other children in the home deny that abuse took place but following the allegations all were removed from the couple’s care.

A high school student in the US has sold over 12 anti-gay t-shirts since his school agreed that he could wear one on campus

A US high school is no longer forcing a student to do away with his anti-gay apparel.

Seth Groody of Wolcott High School in Connecticut was originally requested by his school  to remove an anti-gay t-shirt he wore on last year's 'Day of Silence', a new campaign to raise awareness of discrimination and bullying against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students. The front of Groody's shirt had a slash across a rainbow and immediately caught the attention of the school's administrators.

A man who worked for seven years at Rocketown, a Nashville, Tennessee music venue and Christian youth outreach facility, says he was fired for wearing a T-Shirt to work which stated: 'I Support Same-Sex Marriage.'

Wes Breedwall immediately made his firing, and the reason why, public by posting a photo of himself in the T-Shirt on Instagram stating in part: 'Here is a picture to show my support for equality and free speech including social media. Cheers to my friends for having my back through all of this.'

A 17-year-old, who describes himself as a 'white supremacist', will deny plotting to blow up six students and a teacher

A self-described ‘white supremacist’ Alabama teen who police accuse of plotting to kill his gay and black classmates with bombs is expected to plead not guilty today (9 January).

Derek Shrout, 17, was arrested on 4 January after a teacher found his journal and contacted the authorities.

Police state the journal contained plans to kill one teacher and five students, who are African American, and another white male student, who Shrout believed to be gay, ABC News reports.

An American pastor has blamed the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, on schools because they are teaching kids about evolution and ‘how to be a homo’.

Pastor Sam Morris, from Tennessee, says the removal of ‘Christian values’ from American classrooms was to blame for wave of gun murders.

On 14 December, Adam Lanza shot 20 children and six adults dead in a school after killing his mother. He then turned the gun on himself.

Ellen DeGeneres showed up to tape her daily talk show with a heavy heart on Monday (17 December) in the aftermath of the massacre at an elementary school Newtown, Connecticut, that left 20 children and six adults dead.

'We're going to do the show and it's going to be a struggle because my heart is broken for those families and for all the people of Newtown,' a subdued DeGeneres said during the show's opening. 'We're holding you in our hearts and today's show is dedicated to you.'

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) blamed marriage equality in Connecticut for the tragic shooting spree in Newtown that took 26 lives.

The Church announced that it will picket the funerals of the children with banners saying ‘God Hate Fags’ and other anti-gay hate messages.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, spokesperson of WBC and daughter of its leader, Fred Phelps, tweeted, ‘Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment’.
