Catholics deliver one million anti-gay marriage postcards

Archbishop of Southwark Peter Smith asked parishioners to mail their anti-gay views to parliament

A leading British Archbishop has distributed one million anti-gay marriage postcards for churchgoers to mail to parliament.

Peter Smith, Archbishop of Southwark, asked people against marriage equality to tell their local members of parliament to vote against the plans in England and Wales.

It comes as part of a last ditch effort to stop the coming legislation, which could be given a free vote in parliament as early as 5 February.

Catholic school gay marriage petition may break law

Students in UK Catholic schools have been encouraged to sign anti-gay marriage petition

The British Humanist Association has told the Catholic Education Service (CES) that its 'absolutely outrageous' request that UK Catholic school pupils sign an anti-gay marriage petition may breach the law.

The secondary schools also directed students as young as 11 to a letter written last month that urged Catholic congregations to protect the sanctity of marriage in Britain.
