Two legally married men and their son are fighting for same-sex marriage in Ohio - despite living more than 500 miles away

A married couple from New York City are joining the legal fight for same-sex marriage in Ohio because they cannot adopt their son in the state.

Married since 2011, Joseph Vitale and Robert Talmas adopted a newborn baby, Cooper, in 2013.

They slept in hospital for the legally required 72 hours as they waited for the birth, before taking their son home to New York where they received a final adoption decree on January 17 2014.

The decree included a directive that a new birth certificate be issued, naming Vitale and Talmas as Cooper’s parents.

It turns out they were originally supposed to be a romantic pair and were once set up on a date by a mutual friend.

Anderson Cooper had an unexpected brush with British royalty when he found himself on the same flight as Prince William.

After William met with President Obama at The White House Monday (8 Monday), the future King of England took an afternoon US air shuttle flight back to New York City.

'There was this kind of buzz and excitement to see this guy come on the aircraft,' Cooper said on his show Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday. 'It's like seeing a rare gazelle or something.'

CNN anchor missed just one day of work on Anderson Cooper 360

Two days after having an emergency appendectomy, Anderson Cooper returned to the air on CNN Tuesday not looking any worse for the wear.

Cooper, 47, did not mention his health scare at the top of Anderson Cooper 360 as he immediately jumped into a story on the ongoing situation in Ferguson, Missouri, where a police officer was not charged in the shooting death of an unarmed black teen.

Anderson Cooper had a very good excuse for being absent from his nightly CNN show on Monday (1 December): He was in the hospital.

Cooper casually tweeted to his followers in Twitter: 'I'll be back on air tomorrow. Had an appendicitis and had to have sudden surgery last night.'

He was replaced on Anderson Cooper 360 for the night by John Berman.

The Ridiculist segment on Anderson Cooper 360 Tuesday (11 November) night was supposed to be about annoying things co-workers do.

Cooper had no idea that it was a segment about him and a candle he keeps in his office that smells like basil.

The CNN anchor giggled throughout as he read the descriptions his co-workers had for the odor: 'Grandma's house,' 'a brothel in Tuscany,' 'a garden gnome's underwear drawer, 'Woodstock vomit,' and 'dumpster ravioli.'

Anderson Cooper ranked fifth in first year on list as openly gay man

Anderson Cooper was ranked fifth in OUT magazine's annual top 50 list of powerful gay men and lesbians - the first year he made the list as an openly gay man.

Cooper had made the list year after year - one year even appearing on the cover of the magazine with Jodie Foster - but it wasn't until last summer that Cooper he publicly acknowledged being gay.

Foster, despite her very public coming out speech at the Golden Globe Awards in January, did not make the top 50 list which was unveiled today.

Anderson Cooper has not yet commented on reports that NBC News has approached him about taking over Matt Lauer's job as host of The Today Show.

But his CNN colleague Howard Kurtz, host of the show Reliable Sources, reported on Sunday (31 March) that Cooper is not interested in the gig.

Kurtz said Cooper, who hosts a nightly show Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN, prefers to stay with the cable network.
