Producers on the long-running British soap have warned cast and crew any users of homophobic language will be disciplined

The British soap Coronation Street’s cast and crew have been warned about homophobia after two members of staff have complained about slurs made on set.

Producers have posted a memo around the Manchester-based studio saying homophobic language will not be tolerated.

Openly gay actor Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, is thought to have been the subject of the anti-gay slurs, but he has made no complaint.

The memo states: ‘We have just been made aware of several recent instances of homophobic remarks being made on the studio floor.

Bar in UK city's gay village transformed into straight pub for episode of Britain's longest running soap opera

British soap Coronation Street is filming scenes for a future episode in Manchester's G-A-Y bar today (3 September).

The popular nightspot in the UK city's gay village has been transformed into a straight bar called the Black Swan for a scene involving the characters Ryan Connor and Sophie Webster.

A spokesman for the show told Gay Star News that the episode features a night out which 'ends in a terrible accident'.

But despite the character of Webster having recently come out, the episode does not involve a gay storyline.

British soap calls article from tabloid Daily Mirror 'inaccurate'

Coronation Street producers have denied the lesbian character Sophie Webster will start fancying men.

In an article in today’s British tabloid newspaper, the Daily Mirror, the character, played by Brooke Vincent, 19, who recently broken up with girlfriend Sian Powers, will start ‘turning the heads of various Street hunks’.

Senior publicity manager Alison Sinclair rubbished the article, saying it was inaccurate and offensive.

Bet Lynch, Curly Watts and Ken Barlow are to star in a Corrie musical

TV presenter Paul O'Grady is joining past and present cast members from Coronation Street to narrate a musical based on the British TV soap next year.

The show is being turned into a Broadway-style show called Street of Dreams and will feature some of the programme's best-loved stars, including Julie Goodyear recreating her role as leopard print-loving Rovers' pub landlady Bet Lynch.
