Derek Riordan, former player for Scotland's national football team, hurled homophobic abuse at nightclub staff in Edinburgh

Scottish footballer Derek Riordan has been fined £800 for hurling homophobic abuse at nightclub bouncers in Edinburgh.

The Bristol Rovers forward was found to have shouted 'poofs' at the staff of the Picture House, as he was thrown out of the Lothian Road night spot on 7 May.

The 29-year-old, who captained Scotland's national football team three times, pleaded guilty to breaching the peace at a hearing in the capital's sheriff court.
