But Ricky Martin is snubbed for his role in the revival of Evita

Nominations for the the 66th annual Tony Awards were announced on Tuesday (1 May) and Ricky Martin's much-heralded return to the Broadway stage in Evita did not result in a nod for the openly-gay superstar.

But out actress Cynthia Nixon, winner of the 2006 Tony for Rabbit Hole, is one of the favorites in the lead actress in a play category for her performance as a woman dying of cancer in Wit.

Martin, who earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for his performance as Che, last appeared on Broadway in 1996 in Les Miserables.

George Takei may have been fired on Sunday night from NBC's Celebrity Apprentice by Donald Trump, but he more than held his own the next night when he squared-off against actor Stephen Baldwin on the subject of gay marriage.

Takei and Baldwin appeared on HLN's Showbiz Tonight Monday (5 March) to discuss the fallout from Kirk Cameron's anti-gay remarks during an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan.

Born-again Christian Baldwin defended Cameron's right to speak out.

The Naked Civil Servant actor to be honored during February award ceremony

Veteran actor John Hurt is to receive the award for outstanding contribution to cinema at the 2012 British Academy Film Awards ceremony next month.

His film, the British Cold War-era spy movie Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is also nominated for 11 awards.

On hearing the news, Hurt said: 'I know that film means a great deal to me but I had no idea that I meant so much to film.'
