Pays tribute to his mom, brother and with 'anyone out there who has ever felt injustice'

As expected, Jared Leto won the best supporting actor Oscar Sunday (2 March) for his acclaimed performance of a transgender woman with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club.

The awards season front-runner took the stage and accepted his Oscar from presenter Anne Hathaway and said: 'Incredible.'

Leto, who was accompanied to the Oscars by his mother and brother, paid tribute to his mom.

'She encouraged her kids to be creative and to work hard and to do something special,' he said. 'I love you mom and thank you for teaching me to dream.'

Jack Evans and George Harris were married at Midway Hills Christian Church in Texas on Saturday after 53 years together – though their marriage will not yet be recognized by the state

Gay couple George Harris and Jack Evans were married on Sunday after 53 years together by a United Methodist priest who has put his pension and credentials as a clergyman on the line in order to conduct the ceremony.

Harris, 80, and Evans, 84, met in Dallas in 1961 and have been together ever since.

They were married 1 March at Midway Hills Christian Church.

While the critics have raved about Jared Leto’s performance of a trans woman with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club, actual trans women are less than happy.

The singer and actor won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor last night (2 March).

But it was not just the Oscar, Leto has won nearly every award he was nominated for in the awards season this year.

On his promotional trail, the ’30 Seconds To Mars’ frontman has caused controversy with how he approached the Dallas Buyers Club role.

The world found out on Sunday that NFL prospect Michael Sam is gay - his dad found out just last week.

Michael Sam Sr. tells The New York Times that he was out celebrating his birthday at a Denny's restaurant outside of Dallas, Texas,  when he received a text from his son containing three words: 'Dad I'm gay.'

The birthday dinner was apparently ruined.

Star of Dallas Buyers Club confronted a woman who said he did not deserve to be honored as he was a man playing a trans woman

US actor and singer Jared Leto was accused of ‘trans misogyny’ last night (4 February).

The ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ star, who has won rave reviews by critics, was told by a heckler did not deserve to be honored for his work.

‘Trans misogyny does not deserve an award!’ screamed the unidentified woman at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Virtuosos Award tribute honoring Leto.

‘What do you mean by that?’ Leto asked, to which the heckler said, ‘You don’t deserve an award for portraying a trans woman, because you’re a man.’

The lesbian-themed French film Blue is the Warmest Color may have been shutout at the Oscars but it was named Foreign Language Film of the Year and LGBT Film of the Year by the Gay and Lesbian Critics Association (GALECA).

GALECA unveiled the winners of its 2013 Dorian Awards on Tuesday (21 January). The group is comprised of over 80 professional entertainment journalists across the US and Europe, including Gay Star News, who write or report for media outlets easily accessible in America.

Jared Leto won a Golden Globe Award on Sunday (12 January) for his performance in the AIDS drama Dallas Buyers Club - the actor's first movie in nearly six years.

Leto took home the prize for his portrayal of a transgender woman named Rayon who is dying from AIDS.

Michael Douglas won the Golden Globe Award on Sunday night for his portrayal of the late gay entertainer Liberace in the TV movie Behind the Candelabra.

It was the fourth career Globe for Douglas who also won the Emmy for Candelabra beating out co-star Matt Damon both times.

In his speech before a star-studded crowd at the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Douglas called Damon 'the bravest, most talented actor I've ever worked with. The only reason (he's) not here is I had more sequins.'

Lambda Legal files federal lawsuit seeking to preserve benefits for partners of city employees

Lambda Legal filed a federal lawsuit today (26 December) against the city of Houston to try and preserve health insurance and other benefits for the same-sex partners of city employees.

The lawsuit names the city and its mayor, Annise Parker, who happens to be a lesbian.

The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas on behalf three City of Houston employees. They were legally married to same-sex spouses in other states since same-sex marriage is not legal in Texas.

Jared Leto continues to establish himself as the front-runner for an Oscar with a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Dallas Buyers Club.

Matthew McConaughey's character in Dallas Buyers Club is an unlikely hero in the early fight against AIDS.

'He’s a bastard, son of a bitch, homophobe, bigot with a seventh-grade education, a two-bit electrician cowboy who gets the HIV and becomes a scientist,' McConaughey tells The Wrap of the real-life character of Ron Woodruff.

Woodruff, a straight electrician from Texas, contracted HIV from drug use and at one point was given 30 days to live by a doctor in the early 1980s.

Jared Leto was away from movies for five years to focus on his music career before returning to the big screen as a transsexual AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club.

But the role required more than learning lines and showing up on the set each day.

'It was intense,' Leto tells talk show host Conan O'Brien. 'I mean I lost between 30 and 40 pounds, was wearing high heels every day... tons of other things as well. I waxed my entire body. My eyebrows included. But it was kind of nice. It was a period piece so I didn't have to do Brazilian, you know?'

Wearing cotton underwear at Dallas gay pride parade this weekend may result in fines, police have said.

Dallas police announced again this week they will enforce the state and pride rules banning 'indecent exposure'.

According to the pride parade rules: 'In accordance with the city of Dallas public nudity ordinance,
parade participants must not expose genitalia, buttocks, or female breasts.'

Gay people are waging ‘war’ on ‘God’ and ‘nature’ using stealth psychology thourgh the media, says hate preacher on US radio

Peter LaBarbera of the Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) hate group stated that gays and lesbians ‘hate God’ and are ‘at war with nature, with God and with truth’.

He made these ‘revelations’ during an appearance yesterday (26 March) on The Janet Meffer Show brodcasted on KWRD-FM, a Dallas based Christian radio station.
