Neil Patrick Harris says an 'exclusive' National Enquirer cover story alleging that he and fiance David Burtka have called off their wedding is false.

'The Nat Enq is cray cray,' the actor tweeted late Wednesday (27 February) 'We’ve never had a wedding date, just engaged (Prop 8 and all).'

When Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka met and fell in love, each was appearing in a Broadway show - Harris in Assassins and Burtka in Gypsy.

They moved to Los Angeles when Harris landed the role of Barney Stinson on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother which remains a big hit in its eighth season.

But Harris says once the show ends its run, the couple and their children, Gideon and Harper, will return to their theater roots.

Emmy winner's memoir described as 'a work of imaginative nonfiction'

Neil Patrick Harris, already juggling work on television, in movies and on the stage, is also busy writing a book that will be published in 2014.

The two-time Emmy winner's book is so far untitled but it is a memoir of sorts described as 'imaginative non-fiction that delivers an interactive, non-linear reading experience.'

'I'm excited to be writing a book of the observations and stories of my life,' Harris said in a statement from publisher Crown Archetype.

It used to be that when a major star came out as gay, they got an entire magazine cover to themselves.

Ellen DeGeneres got the Time cover, Lance Bass and Clay Aiken got People covers and Sean Hayes was among the many stars to have gotten an Advocate cover.

In the current issue of Entertainment Weekly which hit newsstands Friday (22 June), eight openly gay celebrities share the cover for a 'special report' called The New Art of Coming Out.

Harris may have been famous for his role as a teenager in the ABC series Doogie Howser MD but at that time, he was having greater success on the stage in such shows as Assassins, Cabaret and Proof.

Meanwhile, Burtka was starring in the musical The Opposite of Sex and had made his Broadway debut in 2003 in the Bernadette Peters-led production of Gypsy.

Star will head salute to Broadway's best for the third time

Neil Patrick Harris, who last year opened the Tony Awards telecast with the musical number Broadway's Not Just for Gays Anymore, will return as the show's host for the third time.

It was announced on Tuesday (3 April) that Harris will be back at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre to preside over the ceremony honoring Broadway's best on June 10.

Harris, who first hosted in 2009 and won an Emmy Award for his efforts, will also once again be one of the show's producers.

Out stars win Peoples Choice Awards, kiss spouses before speeches

Wednesday night's telecast of the People's Choice Awards featured two same-sex kisses on CBS, a television network with a weak record when it comes to LGBT characters on its scripted shows.

The first smooch ocurred when Ellen DeGeneres was named winner of the Favorite Daytime TV Host category and kissed wife Portia de Rossi before taking the stage.

She beat out the hosts of The Today Show, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, Anderson Cooper and Rachael Ray to win her the 11th Peoples Choice Award of her career and sixth in the talk show category.
