Welsh Secretary David Jones has claimed in a controversial interview that gay couples ‘clearly’ cannot raise children.

The Conservative MP, who voted against marriage equality plans on 5 February, said gays are unable to provide a ‘warm and safe environment’.

Speaking on ITV Wales’ Face To Face programme, he said: ‘I regard marriage as an institution that has developed over many centuries, essentially for the provision of a warm and safe environment for the upbringing of children, which is clearly something that two same-sex partners can’t do.

A gay member of parliament has responded to the Welsh Secretary David Jones’ controversial comments on gay parents.

In a controversial interview on Welsh television, he said gay couples ‘clearly’ could not raise children.

‘I regard marriage as an institution that has developed over many centuries, essentially for the provision of a warm and safe environment for the upbringing of children, which is clearly something that two same-sex partners can’t do,’ Jones said.

Australian Speaker of the House of Representatives, Peter Slipper, in hot water over gay sexual harassment allegations

Peter Slipper, the Speaker of the House of Representatives in Australia has been called by the Federal Opposition to step aside while allegations that he sexually harassed a male staffer are before court.

Mr Slipper, who took to Twitter this morning claiming that ‘The allegations in News Ltd papers are denied!’, is accused of only hiring 33-year-old James Ashby for the sole purpose of pursuing a sexual relationship with him.
