O'Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace join Whoopi Goldberg and draw 3.9 million viewers

ABC's daytime chat show The View returned to the air with new episodes on Monday (15 September) with a new line-up of co-hosts and scored its highest ratings in eight years.

Whoopi Goldberg is the only holdover in an overhaul for the show's 18th season that includes new co-hosts, a new set in a new studio and a new executive producer.

Goldberg was joined by former co-host Rosie O'Donnell who had left the show after one fiery season back in 2006-07 as well as actress Rosie Perez and conservative author and commentator Nicolle Wallace.

Former co-host Joy Behar defends O'Donnell against blistering attack by nemesis Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Seven years after her fiery exit from The View, ABC officially confirmed today that Rosie O'Donnell is returning to the show - and the fireworks have already begun.

'ABC confirms Rosie O'Donnell returns as co-host of #TheView w/ moderator Whoopi Goldberg for Season 18,' the network tweeted without further comment.

O'Donnell also has not yet commented on the news but two of her former co-hosts, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar are engaged in a war of words over her return.

Four bedroom apartment  in NYC was once St. Vincent’s Hospital

When Rosie O'Donnell signed on to do a nightly talk show of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) last year, she relocated to Chicago where the show was taped and bought a Lakeview home for $2.5 million.

But unlike her previous television successes, The Rosie Show was canceled earlier this year after just six months on the air and Rosie headed back home to her native New York.
