The New Zealand MP is hesitating about following in the footsteps of Michelle and Barack Obama by dancing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Maurice Williamson was asked to appear on the popular American talkshow after his pro-gay-marriage speech, in which he said he saw a 'big gay rainbow' over his electorate that morning, went viral.

Tells her showbiz idol: 'It’s like I’ve met Jesus'

Kate McKinnon, the Saturday Night Live cast member who has made her Ellen DeGeneres impersonation one of her most popular characters on the show, transformed herself while guesting on her idol's daytime show this week.

McKinnon, who like DeGeneres is a lesbian comedienne, appears in the first segment chatting with the host about how she always looked up to her.

'It's been such a journey,' she said. 'I'm trying not to cry because I have loved you my whole life and have just wanted to meet you so badly.'

Ellen DeGeneres is well-known for her comedy but on her daytime talk show, she will also turn serious at times to address major news events.

Monday (15 April) was one of those days when during the taping of a show to air today, DeGeneres learned of the bombing at the Boston Marathon.

At the end of the show, she takes a moment to address the tragedy.

‘I want to tell everyone in Boston that we’re thinking about you,' DeGeneres says. 'We’re watching the news and it’s incredibly sad.’

Portia de Rossi has made the decision that she and wife Ellen DeGeneres are not going to have children.

'There comes some pressure in your mid-30s, and you think, Am I going to have kids so I don’t miss out on something that other people really seem to love? Or is it that I really genuinely want to do this with my whole heart? I didn’t feel that my response was "yes" to the latter,' the 40-year-old DeRossi tellsOUT magazine.

Anderson Cooper ranked fifth in first year on list as openly gay man

Anderson Cooper was ranked fifth in OUT magazine's annual top 50 list of powerful gay men and lesbians - the first year he made the list as an openly gay man.

Cooper had made the list year after year - one year even appearing on the cover of the magazine with Jodie Foster - but it wasn't until last summer that Cooper he publicly acknowledged being gay.

Foster, despite her very public coming out speech at the Golden Globe Awards in January, did not make the top 50 list which was unveiled today.

Finding Dory to focus on her friendly but forgetful blue tang fish character

Ellen DeGeneres has long had a running gag about the lack of a sequel to the 2003 animated smash Finding Nemo.

But  now it's no longer a joke.

The comedienne announced on her daytime talk show today that Disney-Pixar is making that sequel and it focuses on her character of Dory, a friendly but forgetful blue tang fish.

'I guess I've mentioned it on the show once or twice,' DeGeneres joked as she showed various past clips of her complaining about the lack of a sequel to Nemo which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Ellen show rolls into Melbourne after making a splash in Sydney

Popular American talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia are being treated like royalty on their Australia tour - with airline Qantas laying on personalized treatment and Victoria state premier Denis Napthine holding a black tie dinner in their honor tomorrow night.

The couple arrived in Melbourne today and were greeted by dedicated fans wearing Ellen t'shirts and displaying banners outside their hotel.

Betty DeGeneres may be 82, but as the mother of one of the most famous lesbians is still campaigning for gay rights across the world

She may be 82 years old, but Betty DeGeneres is a gay rights campaigner who can be extremely outspoken.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, the mother of Ellen has called people who are against gay marriage bullies.

She said politicians who fail to support marriage equality are just ‘bullying’, and said she would love to get a message to Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who is against same-sex marriage.

Openly lesbian comic will continue to host her critically and commercially acclaimed daytime talk show to 2017

Openly gay comic Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show was renewed for four more years, it was announced today (11 March).

After marking its 10th year on the air, the syndicated show was renewed through to the 2016-17 by NBC.

Valari Staab, NBC President, described the show as ‘the crown jewel’ of the daytime lineup.

‘In fact, “Ellen” is the top choice for women 25-54 in her time period in seven of our markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, this season,’ Staab said.

Lesbian talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly taken the bait and signed on to reprise her role as forgetful fish Dory in the Finding Nemo sequel.

According to the LA Times, DeGeneres has agreed play everyone’s favorite blue tang fish with short-term memory loss again.

Rumors regarding the sequel to the Pixar/Disney film have been swimming around for years but were finally confirmed in June last year.

DeGeneres has expressed a great love for the film, and has said numerous times on her daytime talk show how she would love to play Dory again.

As reported by Politico, the television host went to Twitter and challenged First Lady Michelle Obama to a push up contest.

It's safe to say that the people really love Ellen DeGeneres.

The ever-popular television personality won her 13th People's Choice Award on Wednesday (9 January), this time in the category of Favorite Daytime Talk Show Host.

'It’s 2013, this is my 13th People’s Choice Award,' DeGeneres said as she accepted the honor. 'It is exactly as the Mayans predicted. So far, they got one right.'

DeGeneres, accompanied the Los Angeles ceremony by wife Portia de Rossi  also thanked everyone 'on her team.'

Lesbian comic and television host Ellen DeGeneres is just one of several celebrities demanding an end to gun violence in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting.

Among the other artists making an appearance in the video also include Beyoncé, Julianne Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeremy Renner, Chris Rock and Will Ferrell.

The black-and-white video begins with the celebrities talking about the Columbine shootings in 1999, Virginia Tech in 2007 and Aurora, Colorado this year.

'My heart is broken for those families and all the people of Newtown'

Ellen DeGeneres showed up to tape her daily talk show with a heavy heart on Monday (17 December) in the aftermath of the massacre at an elementary school Newtown, Connecticut, that left 20 children and six adults dead.

'We're going to do the show and it's going to be a struggle because my heart is broken for those families and for all the people of Newtown,' a subdued DeGeneres said during the show's opening. 'We're holding you in our hearts and today's show is dedicated to you.'

America’s top entertainers and comedians hailed Ellen DeGeneres as a trailblazer last night (22 October) as she received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

DeGeneres follows in the footsteps of fellow comedians Will Ferrell and Tina Fey, becoming the 15th recipient of the prize.

‘I’m flattered. It’s fantastic. Of course, I think “What took so long?”’ she joked.
