Modern Family, American Horror Story among winners in TV categories

The Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association on Wednesday (16 January) announced the winners of the group's annual Dorian Awards which honor the best in film and television of 2012.

Argo, which has gained Oscar momentum after Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award wins, was voted Film of the Year by GALECA. Oscar front-runners Daniel Day-Lewis and Anne Hathaway won the Performance of the Year prizes for Lincoln and Les Miserables, respectively.

'It’s a whole different era, his generation'

Sally Field, currently getting Oscar buzz for her performance in the new film Lincoln, talked about more than the movie during an appearance on Katie Couric's daytime talk show to air Monday (20 November).

Field shared with Couric her pride in being introduced by her gay son, Sam Greisman, when she was presented with the Human Rights Campaign's Ally for Equality Award last month in Washington DC.

Iconic advice columnist points out that it's sexual harassment and a hostile work environment

The advice columnist known as Dear Abby is getting praise for pointing out to a closeted gay man being pressured to date a female co-worker that he is a victim of sexual harassment and is working in a hostile work environment.

Columnist Abigail Van Buren is really Jeanne Phillips who several years ago took over for the column's founder, her mother Pauline Phillips. The column is the most widely syndicated in the world.

Makes statement while interviewing Kansas pastor who says gays should be put to death

During CNN’s Early Start on Thursday (31 May), co-anchor Ashleigh Banfield challenged Kansas Pastor Curtis Knapp, who recently called for the government to kill gays and lesbians.

But during the interview with a controversial figure, Banfield caused a controversy of her own as she tried to condemn Knapp's comment that 'we punish pedophilia, we punish incest, we punish polygamy and various things. It's only homosexuality that is lifted out as an exemption.'

Financial guru Suze Orman has been out publicly for several years now but she acknowledges that she has consciously avoided talking much about her personal life in a professional setting.

'I didn’t want people’s minds to be troubled by the fact that — you know, that I’m gay and I’ve been with [her wife] KT now for 11 years,' Orman said in a conference call with reporters this week. 'So I always wanted to be known as the Money Lady, not, you know, the Money Lesbian.'
