Gay rugby tournament the Union Cup 2013 will see 550 players from over 20 teams compete in Bristol, pumping £25,000 into the local economy

Bristol, UK will be hosting Europe’s biggest gay rugby tournament, the Union Cup 2013 on 23 – 26 May.

This year 550 gay rugby players from teams including Stockholm, Berlin, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Dublin will travel to Bristol to compete, bringing an estimated £25,000 to the city's local economy.

Tournament director David Arid said: ‘The idea of a gay and gay-friendly rugby club is to provide an accepting environment in which players can develop their sporting potential without fear of prejudice.

Friends of the disgraced Cardinal Keith O’Brien say he’s been ordered by the Vatican into exile and ditch his plans for retirement in Scotland.

The Herald commented that: ‘It is the clearest indication yet of the Vatican's unwillingness to let the matter drift’ of the Cardinal’s sexual assault on male priests when he run seminaries in the 1980s and during a drinks party in Rome.

Catholic Church reportedly believe an investigation is no longer warranted as the cardinal has apologized for his behavior

The Vatican will not take any further action against Cardinal Keith O’Brien, who has admitted to ‘sexual misconduct’ with four priests.

After the former Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh stepped down in February, there is no active investigation by the Catholic Church.

Senior figures in the Vatican do not believe a formal investigation is warranted as O’Brien has already admitted and apologized for his behavior, according to the Scotland on Sunday.

Last March, O’Brien admitted the claims and apologized.

Cardinal Keith O’Brien had a long-standing sexual relationship with a man while he was the leader of Scotland’s Catholic Church.

The man, who left the priesthood in the middle of the last decade, confessed to the relationship after complaints of sexual misconduct from other priests had been revealed.

Scottish transgender man admitted to 'obtaining sexual intimacy by fraud' in two cases, meaning he will face jail time

A transgender Scottish man was sentenced for obtaining sexual intimacy by fraud yesterday (6 March).

Chris Wilson, 25, from Aberdeen, was accused of failing to tell two teenage girls his gender history and real age.

The Edinburgh High Court heard one of the girls was aged between 15 and 16 when she first met Wilson in 2008, when he was 20.

The possibly underage girl found out the truth when another girl from Stonehaven emailed her a copy of Wilson’s passport – which gave Wilson’s birth name Christine. The two kissed but it went no further.

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed a temporary successor to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

Archbishop of Glasgow Reverend Philip Tartaglia will govern the vacant diocese until a permanent appointment is made.

It follows Cardinal Keith O’Brien, who has previously compared gay marriage to slavery, resigned after allegations he initiated inappropriate acts with his male priests.

The Vatican is going to investigate the claims.

Four priests, one who has now left the church, have accused the archbishop of ‘inappropriate behavior’ over 30 years.

Four priests say Britain’s leading Catholoic homophobe made ‘inappropriate’ advances and contact, one claims a ‘relationship’. O’Brien disputes accusations

Four priests, one who has now left the church, have accused Scotland’s Cardinal Keith O’Brien of ‘inappropriate behavior’ over 30 years.

The Cardinal’s spokesman has said their claims are contested. He is apparently taking legal advice.

O’Brien has previously compared gay marriage to slavery, claiming it is a ‘violation of human rights’ and slammed its planned introduction by the Scottish and parliament and Westminster as ‘madness’.

According to The Observer, which broke the story, the four are all based in the diocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

A Further Education college in Edinburgh, Scotland won an award for raising awareness about LGBT issues

Edinburgh College won Scotland’s Colleges Annual Award today (30 November) for its efforts of raising awareness for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) youth community.

The portal Caledonian Mercurty reported that the college, which only opened two months ago (October) did various events for the LGBT History Month which was also marked with the launch of its LGBT Society – a support group to address homophobic bullying.

Members of a gay choir from Edinburgh, Scotland were given the chance of a lifetime when famed rockstar Rod Stewart invited them to take part in his Christmas television special.

The Maggie May singer became a fan of the Loud and Proud choral group after seeing a video of them performing online. 

The Scottish choir shared the stage with Stewart, as well as his special guests which included Kylie Minogue and Michael Buble.

Inspired by homophobic murders in Iraq, 'Elegy' premieres in UK capital London

A play about the lives of gay Iraqi refugees will premiere in London after a critically acclaimed run in Edinburgh.

Inspired by interviews of gay Iraqi refugees who fled the mass killings in their homeland to Syria, Elegy is described as a 'poetic love letter' to the victims of homophobic murders in the troubled Gulf country.

Using images of refugees by photojournalist Bradley Seckler, the play runs from Battersea’s Theatre503 between 9 October and 3 November.

The Scottish parliament is likely to debate gay marriage equality within the next parliamentary session, First Minister Alex Salmond has announced

The Scottish government is due to debate same-sex marriage equality within their 2012 to 2013 session, it has been announced.

It will be part of a package of 15 bills brought forward to the Holyrood chamber in Edinburgh over the next 12 months.

First Minister Alex Salmond has just announced details of his legislative program for the next year and paved the way for a referendum in 2014 on Scottish independence from Britain.

Same-sex marriage equality will also be brought forward in a Marriage and Civil Partnership Bill.

Scotland will be first part of UK to legalize same-sex marriage. UPDATE: Full reactions from LGBT campaigners, faith leaders and politicians

Scotland has confirmed it will legalize gay marriage, becoming the first part of the UK to do so.

A bill on the issue will be brought forward in the country's parliament this September.

Today’s decision (25 July) comes after cabinet members of the Scottish National Party (SNP) government met earlier this month to discuss the measures.

Despite widespread support for a change in the law, there has been fierce opposition from some religious leaders and clerics.

The Scottish government has not announced a decision on same-sex marriage following a cabinet meeting to discuss the issue.

Cabinet members of the Scottish National Party (SNP) government met at the First Minister's official residence at Bute House in Edinburgh to discuss same-sex marriage.

A Scottish government spokesperson said: 'This is an important issue and it is right that cabinet takes the time to get both the principle and the detail of the decision right.'

A couple from Glasgow are calling on the Scottish government to legalize religious gay marriages

A lesbian couple from Glasgow said ‘I do’ to gay marriage during a mock wedding outside the Scottish parliament in Edinburgh.

Jaye and Ruth Richards-Hill symbolically tied the knot today at Holyrood to call for the legalization of same-sex marriage, as well as allow religious organizations to hold ceremonies if they want to.

Scotland’s ministers will announce the results of a consultation this month, with a finalized bill likely to appear by 2013.
