'I love you David and will miss you a lot'

A fellow television icon was having his last night on the air and Ellen DeGeneres did not want to let David Letterman go without paying the proper respect.

On Wednesday (20 May), the day of Letterman's last night as host of CBS's The Late Show, DeGeneres closed her own show with a tribute to Letterman's 33 years on network television.

'What a career he's had,' DeGeneres said. 'He is, for me personally, an inspiration.'

‘It would’ve been very sad for me not to come back'

Great news for Portia de Rossi fans.

Not only will the actress be returning to ABC’s Scandal next season, but she has been promoted to series regular.

Her character, Elizabeth 'Lizzie Bear' North had been recurring although de Rossi says she has already felt like a regular.

‘I’ve been here for the entire season, so, honestly, I already feel like I’m part of the family,’ she tells TV Line.

It seems doubtful that Nick the gardener is actually still mowing Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s lawn but he's still dropping in on Ellen's daytime show.

On Thursday (14 May), the muscular green thumb showed up and shared with viewers some memories from his time on the set of Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the 2012 nit about a group of male strippers.

Some of the film's stars, including Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello, chat with Nick and Tatum is impressed with his physique.

Ellen DeGeneres has come to the defense of Bruce Jenner critics who are poking fun of the Olympic gold medalist because he is in the process of transitioning to female.

On her daytime talk show last week, DeGeneres took a few minutes to pay tribute to the reality show star and to put the naysayers in their place.

'It took a lot of courage to do that,' she said of Jenner's revelation. 'I know it's really hard to reveal what you've been hiding.'

When a straight guy asked his gay best friend to the high school prom, he would never have known that he would be appearing on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.

That's what happened to Jacob Lescenski, the Las Vegas teen who held a sign up in his school for his friend Anthony Martinez: 'You're hella gay, I'm hella str8 but you're like my brother so be my d8?'

Lescenski revealed he knew Martinez once had a crush on him, and he was unsure of whether he should be friends with him.

Among those who took to Twitter was transgender actress Laverne Cox who wrote: 'Sending lots of love and support to #BruceJenner and their family tonight. It is always brave to stand in one's truth. Congrats darling.'

Incident took place more than three decades before Tomlin publicly acknowledged being a lesbian

In the early 1970s, Lily Tomlin guested on NBC's The Tonight Show when host Johnny Carson asked her the question.

It wasn't 'Are you gay?' But it might as well have been.

Carson asked Tomlin, then one of the stars of TV's Laugh In, about being single without children.

When Tomlin answered that she wasn't interested in having kids, she remembers the audience became 'deathly still.'

Madonna guested all last week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Material Girl and funny lady had all kinds of fun together. They even sang together in the bathroom wearing white robes - with monograms.

Ellen brought back her Bathroom Concert Series in honor of her special guest with a reworked version of the Madonna classic Dress You Up.

The series had previously featured the host singing duets with the likes of Katy Perry and Pink.

Star of Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy will not let homophobic opinions 'affect my fashion choices'

Elton John, Ellen DeGeneres and Ricky Martin are all boycotting Dolce and Gabbana after the designers said they only believe in the 'traditional family' and children born of IVF and gay parents are 'synthetic'.

But Zoe Saldana, who made her name in films like Star Trek, Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy, will not be joining that list.

'That would be the stupidest thing, if it affected my fashion choice,' Saldana told E! News.

Director Roland Emmerich also honored with special award

There was no shortage of star power at the GLAAD Media Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday led by honoree Kerry Washington and presenters Ellen DeGeneres and Channing Tatum.

DeGeneres took the stage to a standing ovation and quipped: 'This is the largest gathering of gay people in one room since yesterday. So congratulations to us!'

The ceremony was one of several held by GLAAD each year honoring media for fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives.

The 84-year-old mother of Ellen DeGeneres is on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank watching her daughter tape her wildly popular daytime talk show.

'I watch it every day. I go to the show and the next day I'll watch the show that I was at,' she told Gay Star News at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Los Angeles over the weekend.

'I don't miss it. Are you kidding? And then when it's reruns all summer I'll watch that too.'

'What if I don't like the kid? What if it turns out that it's not as cute as I wanted or as talented?'

Ellen DeGeneres said Tuesday she'd like to have kids - but not enough to actually become a parent.

DeGeneres appeared on The Today Show as executive producer of the NBC sitcom One Big Happy about a lesbian who has a child with her straight male best friend.

DeGeneres said of potential parenthood: 'I love kids. But that's such a big commitment. And it seems long-term. It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with.
