HRC Nebraska and HRC Arkansas have announced details of their ‘Equality is Our Business’ programs

Developed by Human Rights Campaign (HRC), America’s largest civil rights organization, the Equality is Our Business initiative has the following aim: to encourage 10,000 US business and organizations to stand up for diversity.

Businesses that sign the pledge join others that support workplace equality and equal treatment in housing and public accommodations.

Human Rights Campaign has published its annual State Equality Index and warns that despite marriage equality in most states, other inequalities persist

Human Rights Campaign has today published its annual State Equality Index, which ranks 50 US states and Washington D.C with regards to the protections that it offers LGBT citizens.

It has broken states down into four categories, with 29 states occupying the bottom slot: those states offering the least protection.

Just seven states fill the top category: those with the most protection.

Following a law change that came into effect on 16 December, Scotland’s first same-sex weddings will take place on Hogmanay

The first gay weddings are due to take place in Scotland after the stroke of midnight tonight.

The Scottish Parliament legalized same-sex marriage in February of this year, and the new law came into effect on 16 December.

On that date, anyone wishing to marry was able to give notice to marry: an obligatory 15-day period. This means that the first wedding ceremonies will take place tomorrow – the last day of the year.

Reverend Donald MacInnes removed from chaplaincy at Glasgow school for calling homosexuality a ‘disorder’ on Facebook

A school chaplain was sacked after calling homosexuality a 'perversion' during a Facebook rant yesterday (6 January).

Reverend Donald MacInnes, a Church of Scotland minister originally from the Isle of Lewis, was removed from his post as chaplain at Glasgow Gaelic School after his tirade against gay marriage.

After parents noticed the comments and complained to Glasgow City Council, MacInnes was relieved of his duties shortly afterwards.

Russian heterosexual allies for LGBT equality have held flashmob events across the country despite police surveillance, sending the message ‘From Russia with Love’

Russia’s Straight Alliance for LGBT Equality has held a series of successful public protests despite being filmed by police, sending the message ‘from Russia with love’ to the global LGBT community.

Organizers of the 3 September flashmob event held it in solidarity with other protests held around the world against Russia’s treatment of LGBTs.

SDA for Marriage Equality stage a protest against 'conservative and right-wing' Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA), the largest trade union in Australia

Disgruntled members of the largest trade union in Australia, the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) protested outside the union's office in Brisbane today.

The protest was organized by SDA for Marriage Equality which formed in response to union leader Joe de Bruyn's vocal opposition to gay marriage.

Around twenty young union members and university students were at the demonstration brandishing pro-gay marriage placards.

 Marriage Bill HB75 will get a vote in the Delaware House

Tomorrow (23 April) Delaware's House of Representatives will vote on a gay marriage bill.

The advocacy group Equality Delaware made the announcement on 19 April. Bill HB75 was approved by the House Administration Committee, by a 4-1 vote. The next day, 18 April, the legislation was sent to the full House for debate.

A survey conducted by a union and an LGBT association finds that, for the elderly, 'being straight is better than being gay'

More than half of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Italian people think that their future will be worse than their present and fear getting older.

That is the result of a survey conducted in Italy by the sociologist Raffaele Lelleri and sponsored by a union, Spi-Cgil, and by LGBT association Equality Italia.

More than 55% of the interviewees expressed a ‘strong’ fear of getting old, while the same amount of people said that their future will be a troubled one.

The Equality Network charity won Scotland's Herald society campaigner of the year award for their campaign on marriage equality

In a ceremony at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza hotel today (2 October) the Equality Network won Scotland’s Herald Society Campaigner of the Year award for their equal marriage campaign.

The Equality Network, a Scottish lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality charity, competed alongside fellow nominees Shelter Scotland and Oxfam Scotland, to win the honour of recognition of their efforts to secure equal marriage rights for same-sex couples in Scotland.

LGBT association Equality Italia launches a campaign to get more gays and lesbians to 'adopt' a child living in poverty abroad

The LGBT Italian association Equality Italia has launched a campaign to encourage single gays or lesbians, or same-sex couples to 'adopt' a child living in poverty abroad.

The campaign is called ‘Io ce l’ho grande il cuore’ or ‘My heart is very big’ and it's thought to be the first of its type to target LGBT people.

Many Italians use 'long distance adoption' to support a child living in poverty in another country - though the 'adoption' does not, of course, make them the legal parents or guardians of the child.

Fast food restaurant chain denies it supports an anti-gay agenda

Chick-Fil-A, a popular fast food chain in the US specializing in chicken entrees, donated nearly $2 million to anti-gay groups in 2010, the watchdog group Equality Matters reported Monday (July 2).

The chain, which has denied in the past that it has an anti-gay agenda, gave a total of $1.9 million to various groups through its charitable arm called WinShape.

Same-sex marriage in Scotland is a step closer after 50,000 responded to the government's consultation

More than 50,000 responses have been submitted to the Scottish government's consultation on the introduction of gay marriage.

The governing Scottish National Party's (SNP) ministers support the move but some in the party oppose allowing gay couples to marry. A 'rainbow coalition' of groups including The Equality Network, Amnesty International, Unison and the Humanist Society of Scotland all filed submissions supporting changing the law.

Activists have united to back Scotland's plan to replace civil partnership with full gay marriage rights

Seven groups campaigning for equal rights for gay couples have united to back the Scottish Government plans to legalise same-sex marriage.

Members of the Equality Network, the Scottish Youth Parliament, Amnesty International, UNISON, the Humanist Society of Scotland, LGBT Youth Scotland and NUS Scotland joined together on 7 December at the Scottish Youth Parliament offices to announce their support for equal marriage in Scotland.
