'Married or single, gay or straight, natural or adoptive', the President says he supports dads who are involved and committed to their children

Calling fatherhood among the most difficult and rewarding jobs as it 'demands constant attention' and 'frequent sacrifice,' US President Barack Obama also gave a shout out to gay fathers in his annual Father's Day Proclamation, issued by the White House on Friday.

President Barack Obama tells gay and straight  dads that they have a great, and difficult, job

In his radio address honoring Father's Day, President Barack Obama made sure to include gay dads.

'Being a good parent – whether you’re gay or straight; a foster parent or a grandparent – isn’t easy,' the president said.  'It demands your constant attention, frequent sacrifice, and a healthy dose of patience.'

The short talk didn't dwell on specific policies, although he promised  'to encourage marriage and strong families.' Instead, the president talked about growing up without a father.

Cooper Smith and Todd Koch will be walking alongside JC Penney employees

When Todd Koch and Cooper Smith were featured in the June JC Penney catalog with their children Claire and Mason, their gay-themed Father's Day photo may have gone by largely unnoticed if it had not been protested by an anti-gay group.

But thanks to OneMillionMoms, a subgroup of American Family Association which called for a boycott of JC Penney, the couple have been getting more attention than they could have imagined.
