GSN to film music, dancing and singing to bring home the message of International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

Gay Star News is joining forces with the UK capital's talented LGBT singers and musicians to make a video to mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO).

Our flashmob will be filmed on Saturday (11 May) so the video can be released on 17 May for IDAHO.

The London Gay Big Band and the London Gay Men’s Chorus will be headlining the event and providing the music. And we have teamed up with talented young video artists to make the film.

‘I never imagined that it would be this great. I just really love this storyline from the bottom of my heart'

Freddie Smith knows he's a part of something special.

The young actor, who received his first Daytime Emmy nomination this week, plays one half of a gay couple on the NBC soap Days of Our Lives in a storyline that fully integrates the characters with the rest of the fictional small town of Salem.

‘I never imagined that it would be this great,' Smith told Gay Star News in a recent interview. 'We had expectations but I just really love this storyline from the bottom of my heart. It’s nice to go to work every day and have such a positive impact.’

Serial felon accused of going on violent crime spree, meeting men off GROWLr and SCRUFF apps, holding them at gun point, and taking their property

A gunman is accused of targeting ‘bears’ he met on gay dating apps for theft and rape.

The man from Kent, an outlying suburb of Seattle, is accused of having gone on a days-long violent crime spree and is now in jail on seven felony charges, reports Seattle Pi.

The most serious allegation against Laverne Lee Maxwell, aged 32, dates from 7 April.

Members of Parliament attend Trans Media Watch session on harassment and inaccurate reporting in the British press

Transgender people have told top politicians of their bad experiences at the hands of the British press at a meeting in parliament.

The discussion was organized after the death of Lucy Meadows, a transgender school teacher who had been the subject of a critical news story and comment piece by columnist Richard Littlejohn in the Daily Mail, a leading UK tabloid.

Taking place from 6 to 19 May, the festival is the largest of its kind in the world. Over 200 performances will take place in six venues around Dublin bringing together artists from around the globe.

LGBT people from across Europe and beyond will plunge into to the beautiful lake high in Austria’s mountains for the festival from 29 August to 1 September.

Talking place in Velden, at lake Woerthersee, the friendly festival attracts hundreds of guests in speedos and bikinis, swimming, relaxing and partying in the picturesque town.

Wilson Cruz: 'We recognize ourselves in her’

Judy Garland may have died in 1969, but her legend has endured - especially among the gay fans who continue to cherish her memory and her music.

Gay Star News recently chatted with various celebrities about the legend of Garland at opening night of the musical End of the Rainbow at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in which Tony nominee Tracie Bennett pays Garland in the final months of her life.

‘She was a great and dear friend,' said Betty White who at 91, is the same age as Garland would be if she were still alive.

Gay Olympic champ helping celebrities work through challenges and fears

Five-time Olympic medalist Greg Louganis debuts tonight as the 'dive master' on ABC's new celebrity reality competition Splash.

The man considered to be the greatest US diver in history, is sharing his expertise with a group of celebrities that include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kendra Wilkinson, Louie Anderson and Keisha Knight Pulliam, among others.

‘I was hired as the judge but they moved my role into dive master,' he tells Gay Star News. 'I’m working with all of the celebrities who are on the show, getting them prepared for the competition.’

Gay actor and fellow sitcom star Josh Gad find out they have a lot in common

Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad appeared in Broadway's The Book of Mormon together in New York then went their separate ways.

Now both are in Los Angeles where Rannells is one of the stars of the NBC hit comedy The New Normal and Gad has been cast as the son of the president of the US in the NBC sitcom 1600 Penn which premieres next month.

In this Funny of Die video parody, Gad is really happy to reconnect with Rannells - so much so that he becomes something of a stalker!

Rannells is understandably creeped out!

Jane Velez-Mitchell may not be as famous as Anderson Cooper, but she gets about as much airtime each night as the host of her own show on CNN's sister network, HLN.

Velez-Mitchell also beat Cooper out of the closet when in 2007 during a live radio show, she told listeners that she was in a relationship with a woman.

Since then, the 56-year-old television personality has felt more comfortable and fully authentic when covering LGBT topics.

American soldiers in Afghanistan have been taking a break from conflict by recreating the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders’ Call Me Maybe.

Without fear of the Taliban, the group of soldiers shoot missiles and show off their guns, while imitating the cheerleading squad of the National Football League's Miami Dolphins.

The cheerleaders covered Carly Ray Jepsen’s gay anthem this year and clearly won a few American soldiers as fans.

Futurist Jason Silva takes time out of headlining the 2012 IBM Information on Demand Conference to show his support for gay marriage on GSN

Jason Silva was keynote speaker at this year’s IBM Info on Demand conference and he took the time out of his busy schedule to record this quick video in support of gay marriage.

Silva opens his clip by congratulating Gay Star News for its ‘continued advocacy on behalf of freedom’, saying that there is ‘no place’ for governments to ‘legislate love’.

He states strongly that he 'completely support[s]' gay marriage, paraphrasing Abraham Lincoln to make a poignant statement on its current illegality.

British National Party leader Nick Griffin has threatened to send a ‘justice’ team to the home of a gay couple who won a discrimination case against two Christians who refused them a hotel room.

Michael Black, 64, and John Morgan, 69, who booked by email and paid a deposit, were turned away by Christian owner Susanne Wilkinson when they arrived at the Swiss Bed and Breakfast in Cookham, Berkshire, southern England in March 2010.

GSN is thrilled to announce that our editor Tris Reid-Smith has been shortlisted for the LGBT Entrepreneur of Excellence Award for his part in starting GSN.

Included in the shortlist are gay and trans activists and business people alike. Britain’s National Diversity Awards, sponsored by Microsoft, are designed to promote ‘unity in society’ and will be presented at a ceremony in Manchester on 21 September.

Tris said he felt his place on the final three for his category was shared with the whole Gay Star News team.

'I wanted to capture the guy under that killer smile and the seemingly boundless energy'

To artist Louis Briel, Dustin Lance Black is a hero.

The 38-year-old screenwriter, director and activist stepped onto the world stage in a big way when he won the Academy Award in 2009 for writing Milk and used the occasion to assure the LGBT kids watching that they are 'beautiful, wonderful creatures of value' just the way they are.

Black has kept writing movies (J. Edgar) but has also become a highly-visible activist in the fight for marriage equality.
