Leader of the Catholic Church has married 20 'modern' couples. While they were all straight, it could still signify a change

Pope Francis has redefined marriage within the Catholic Church, blessing 20 couples at the Vatican that would have been banned under previous doctrine.

He welcomed 40 people from different social backgrounds, including a man about to enter into his second marriage and a woman with a daughter from a previous relationship, to St Peter's Basilica in Rome yesterday (14 September).

The mother, Gabriella Improta, said she did not feel 'worthy or able to meet the requirements of a good Catholic couple'.

Is the ex-gay lobby moving from attempts to ‘cure’ our sexuality to a recognition that we can’t be cured so should be giving up on sex altogether?

I didn’t know my sexual orientation was still up for debate. Progress is made at the US Supreme Court, but not in certain religious conservative circles.

Alan Chambers, president of Exodus International, announced the closing of the organization. What appeared as a seismic shift, or a closing chapter in the harmful history of ex-gay ministries may be neither. I suggest we all listen to the coded language and read the fine print.

New ‘bigots’ register’ for England and Wales would allow opposite-sex couples to be separately registered as having a ‘traditional marriage’

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord George Carey is trying to wreck gay marriage in England and Wales by creating a new gold standard only straights can be part of – ‘traditional marriage’.

As a member of the House of Lords, he is proposing to amend the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill so it recognizes ‘traditional marriage’ as only being between a man and a woman.

Marriage equality supporters make certain the British House of Lords hear their voices

Around 500 supporters of equal marriage attended a rally outside the UK parliament tonight (3 June) to show their support for marriage equality and to let peers debating and voting know how important the issue is to them.

The House of Lords is debating the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill for England and Wales today ahead of a crucial, although not final, vote tomorrow afternoon.

The 500 pro equal marriage supporters far outnumbered a very small handful of anti equal marriage Christians.

LGBT Christians will go head-to-head with anti-gay Christians as they both spend a day praying to God – for or against marriage equality.

Gay-hating Christians have declared Sunday (2 June) as Britain's National Day of Prayer for Marriage.

But, on being alerted to the day by Gay Star News, Christians who support LGBT equality have responded by issuing their own prayers – hoping for divine help to pass the equal marriage bill for England and Wales.

New claims Justin Welby joined clergy because of a speech by anti-gay John McClure who believes the Apocalypse is happening now

The new Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was inspired to join the clergy by an anti-gay American pastor, The Times has claimed.

The British newspaper says the head of the world’s Anglican Christians took holy orders after hearing California Pastor John McClure speak in London.

McClure is a vocal opponent to gay marriage and abortion. He also believes the Apocalypse has started, that the ‘new Babylon’ is on America’s East Coast and will burn in an hour and that the world will end in the first half of this century.

Despite the ban on the Church of England hosting same-sex marriages in the bill's current form, ministers say they will risk their careers to do what they feel is right

Church of England priests will bless same-sex marriages ‘under the radar’, campaigners are saying.

There is a ban on the church and all its clergy hosting ceremonies for gay couples in its form, but some say ministers will get around this by performing blessing ceremonies under a different name.

The announcement comes after the House of Commons voted overwhelmingly for marriage equality after its second reading 400 votes to 175.

Reverend Sharon Ferguson comments as church document claims letting gay wed would destroy ‘traditional institution of marriage’

The head of the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM) has said new Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby’s plan to attack same-sex marriage as ‘absolutely horrific’.

Reverend Sharon Ferguson of the LGCM told Gay Star News that Welby shouldn’t use his first day in the job to attack gay and lesbian couples but should be trying to welcome them back into the Church of England he now heads.

Welby is being formally confirmed in his new job today (4 February) at a service in St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

A decade after gay cleric Jeffrey John was forced to step down as a bishop by traditionalist Christians, the CoE have said they have evolved on allowing gay bishops

The Church of England has dropped its ban on gay clergy becoming bishops.

This announcement, from the Church’s House of Bishops, would allow clergy in civil partnerships to become bishops if they promised to be celibate, the BBC reports.

In 2003, the issue split the church when gay cleric Jeffrey John, who has always maintained his celibacy, became a Bishop of Reading.

John, now Dean of St Albans, was forced to step down from the role after protests from traditionalists.

We invited gay Christians in Europe and America to send GSN readers their Christmas messages

Gay Christian groups have used the story of the magi, who visited Jesus in the Bible, to explain their Christmas message to Gay Star News readers and the wider world.

Sharon Ferguson, chief executive of the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement in London said: ‘I would like to remind people of the magi who went looking for Christ and although they discovered him in a lowly stable, this made no difference to them. They recognised the worth of Christ and knew who he was.
