App's Best of 2014 Awards find Clinton 'Straight Ally of the Year' and Vladimir Putin 'Enemy of the LGBT Community'

Hillary Clinton has not yet formally announced her candidacy for President of the United States but she can already count on one block of voters.

Grindr users voted the former Secretary of State, US Senator and First Lady the 'Straight Ally of the Year' in the app's third annual Best of Awards.

In contrast to the support Clinton received, Russian President Vladimir Putin was voted 'Enemy of the LGBT Community' - no doubt for his championing of Russia's anti-gay propaganda law.

Blued has 15 million users compared with Grindr's 5 million

Chinese gay dating app Blued has raised US$30 million from venture capital firm DCM in a Series B round of funding.

Earlier this year, the company received RMB10 million ($1.6 million) in Series A financing from Crystal Stream.

CEO of Blued Geng Le said, 'In 16 months, Blued has completed three rounds of financing and our valuation far exceeds that of some heterosexual social products.

'Our development can make more people to see the value of the gay internet, as well as the diversity and progress of Chinese society.'

Some angry gay men feel like their privacy has been violated and are seeking legal action

Angry Grindr users in Berlin are seeking legal action over an 'art' project taking place in the centre of a busy square.

For the next two weeks, Dutch gay artist Dries Verhoeven is sitting in a glass-walled container and is airing his Grindr conversations - live and unedited - on screens and online.

His intention is to recruit a steady flow of men into his box for various non-sexual activities such as playing chess, having breakfast or shaving each other's beards.

An Egyptian court has sentenced six allegedly gay men to two years in jail with labor on charges of 'committing debauchery.'

Ahram Online reported on Thursday that the men were arrested in a raid on an apartment and two of them were caught 'red-handed.'

The court said the men were advertising their apartment as a place for gay sex on Facebook for $200 a night.

The men were also fined LE200 each ($30). One of them was a Moroccan national.

Authorities in homophobic countries have been using the app to hunt gay men

Grindr has disabled its show distance setting in countries that have a history of anti-gay violence, after reports that authorities were using the app to hunt gay men.

The setting no longer works in Russia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Liberia, Sudan and Zimbabwe among others, and more will be added to the list.

Grindr told GSN, ‘In light of recent security allegations surrounding a user’s specific location, Grindr is taking measures and will be releasing updates to keep users secure in territories with anti-gay legislation.'

Two British men who used the app Grindr to lure and blackmail gay men will be jailed for four years each.

Nathanael Foster and Adam Webb, both 26 from Gloucester in South West England, were charged with two counts of blackmail.

Gloucester Crown Court heard how the pair trapped two men, with one victim even handing over £15,000 ($25,000, €19,000) to the pair.

The victim had saved the money and drew it out from the bank to give to the men after they stayed all night in his home to ensure he paid up.

The Stay With Me star said he dislikes the use of hook-up apps and thinks people should date the old-fashioned way.

With changes to the layout and offerings, users’ profile pictures will be featured more prominently in the update.

A British gay ex-policeman is suing the Metropolitan Police for race and homophobic discrimination.

Kevin Maxwell, a former Special Branch detective, claims he was driven to resign after officers taunted him by saying he should become a ‘hairdresser or cabin crew’.

The 36-year-old also said he was told by a former member of Scotland Yard’s Vetting Unit that officers’ activity on Grindr would be monitored.

Back in 2009, Maxwell was diagnosed with depression after experiencing racism and homophobia in the force.

Sexually assaulted at gunpoint, then taken to five nearby ATMs to withdraw cash

A 34-year-old Canadian man was sexually assaulted, beaten and robbed by a man he invited to his hotel room in Philadelphia, US after talking with him on the gay hookup app Grindr.

The victim, who did not want to be identified by NBC Philadelphia, was in the city to attend an education conference when he invited the suspect to his Hilton Home2 Suites hotel room around 1.30 pm on Wednesday.

The London Gay Men’s Chorus sang for equality today while the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics kicked off in Sochi.

With talk of the Olympics having been overshadowed by Russia’s LGBTI laws, the chorus decided to take a stand.

Steven McIntyre, one of the group’s trustees and the organiser of the protest, said: 'What we wanted to do was say, "look, we understand that the Olympics bring people together, but this Olympics is excluding people, and that’s not okay".'
