‘They are so desperate for votes they are even asking people they think are unnatural,’ say LGBTI activists

An Indian political party that wants gay sex to stay illegal has found a surprising place to advertise for supporters – Grindr.

For the past four days, Indians have been checking the gay hookup app to see the Bharatiya Janata Party’s advertisements.

It shows prime-ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s picture, together with the party’s lotus symbol, calling on gay people to vote BJP.

Two gay and bisexual candidates with Holland’s D66 party have turned to Grindr to seek the support of the LGBTI community in municipal elections later this month

Two candidates for Holland’s D66 party have found an innovative way to seek the votes of the LGBTI community – setting up profiles on gay dating app Grindr to reach out to gay voters.

Candidates Jan-Bert Vroege and Pieter Rietman set up their profiles ahead of municipal elections that are being held on 19 March.

Vroege's Grindr profile asks ‘Have I got a date with you on March 19?’ – though he is happily partnered in a same-sex relationship.

The London Gay Men's Chorus sang for three hours outside Russian Embassy in London

The London Gay Men’s Chorus sang for equality today while the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics kicked off in Sochi.

With talk of the Olympics having been overshadowed by Russia’s LGBTI laws, the chorus decided to take a stand.

Steven McIntyre, one of the group’s trustees and the organiser of the protest, said: 'What we wanted to do was say, "look, we understand that the Olympics bring people together, but this Olympics is excluding people, and that’s not okay".'

Boys have I got a treat for you. This slightly older guy loves judo, fishing and defending homophobic laws, and he’s finally on Grindr!

That’s right. Vladimir Putin is on the hookup app. Well, probably not anyway.

Describing himself as ‘Heterosexual. Totally. Definitely,’ Putin is apparently looking for ‘chat, dates, influence in the Middle East and meaningless sex with a man.’

In his short bio, he explains: ‘Hi Guys. I love Judo, water sports (especially pissing on human rights), extreme homophobia and big sex.

Three young men will be tried 26 December for strangling a 71-year-old gay man to death after arranging to meet him on Grindr

Three homeless youths will face life in prison if convicted of killing a senior citizen they met on gay mobile networking app Grindr.

19-year old Richard Thompson, 19-year old Mark Paling and 20-year old Rikky Ranger confessed to Ann Arbor Police in Michigan they stole credit cards, cash, computer and a gun from 71-year-old David Maurer after strangling him.

Ranger had met Maurer previously and they had gone out a few times, according to police reports. The other two youths suggested they meet with Maurer to rob him.

For his support of gay marriage and the LGBTI community, Archbishop of Wales Dr Barry Morgan has been invited as a guest of honor to the South Wales Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM) carol service  

The Archbishop of Wales is once again showing his support for the LGBTI movement by attending a gay Christian carol service.

Dr Barry Morgan, the Archbishop of Wales, will join a carol service organised by the South Wales Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM), as a guest of honour.

The South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus, as well as women’s choir The Songbirds, will be performing at the service.

The Archbishop has said he is ‘delighted’ to support the event.

Singing group does parody of sexy Kmart commercial in holiday undies

Retailer Kmart’s Joe Boxer holiday ad featuring scantily clad musical hunks has amassed over 15 million views in under three weeks.

The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles decided to try and get in on some of that action by producing a short similarly-themed video to promote their upcoming holiday show.

The cast includes dancers Fred Arens, Chris Etscheid, John Halbach, Richard Durazo, Jason Duguay, Jason Frazier, and announcers Ivan Estrada and Nico Decastro.

Underage boys were targeted and groomed on social media, with many losing their virginity to men forty years older than them

Two British men, one with HIV, have admitted to meeting several gay teens on Grindr and other social media for unsafe sex.

Anthony Marsh, 53, and Lee Davis, 39, from Doncaster, are facing jail for 55 child sex offenses.

In what police are describing as ‘vile’ and ‘horrendous’, the two befriended and groomed boys as young as 13 online who were gay, bi or questioning.

Some of their victims had only just come out as gay and many lost their virginity to the men, according to the detective in charge of the case.

Gay dating app Grindr is considering threatening legal action over its ban in Turkey.

Earlier this month, the app was blocked by Istanbul’s Criminal Court of Peace as a ‘protection measure’.

Joel Simkhai, the founder and CEO of Grindr, told The Independent they were considering how to respond to the ban.

They believe around 125,000 Turkish gay users are no longer able to use the hook-up app.

Gay dating app Grindr has said they are ‘very upset’ over being banned in Turkey.

GSN reported yesterday (11 September) users were unable to get onto the website, app, and database.

According to gay rights group KAOS GL, Istanbul’s Criminal Court of Peace blocked the app as a ‘protection measure.’

In a statement made to Gay Star News, a Grindr spokesman said they were ‘very upset’ over the action.

Turkey has banned, censored and blocked the gay dating app Grindr, it was revealed today (11 September).

The online database and website are inaccessible in the country from yesterday evening, according to the main Turkish LGBT association KAOS GL.

According to the gay rights group, Istanbul’s Criminal Court of Peace blocked the app as a ‘protection measure’.

A user attempting to access the hookup website received a message stating the Telecommunications Communication Presidency had implemented the measure.

A Christian youth leader is using Grindr to recruit gay people.

Michael Szalapski is using the geo-location hookup site in an alternative way. He's trying to help other gay Christians experiencing rejection from the church.

The gay man from Clarksville, Tennessee, was recruited by his progressive church, gay-friendly church as they felt young people would benefit from his experience and insight.

Yesterday gay men around the country joined in a peaceful demonstration to protest the federal law that prohibits gay men from donating blood

Gay men across the US have joined forces against the 1970’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ban on gay blood donors.

Gay rights organizations and activists organized a National Gay Blood Drive day yesterday (12 July) where men who have sex with men, also known as MSM, were encouraged to arrive at 53 blood donation centers around the US and attempt to give blood.

Gay musicians, politicians and celebrities will sing, dance and cheer to herald gay marriage equality outside the UK parliament on Monday (15 July).

As the British House of Lords prepares for the final vote on the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill for England and Wales, they will serenade and applaud the politicians in a day of celebration.

Music will come from the London Gay Men's Chorus and the London Gay Big Band with special guests being invited to speak.

Marriage equality supporters make certain the British House of Lords hear their voices

Around 500 supporters of equal marriage attended a rally outside the UK parliament tonight (3 June) to show their support for marriage equality and to let peers debating and voting know how important the issue is to them.

The House of Lords is debating the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill for England and Wales today ahead of a crucial, although not final, vote tomorrow afternoon.

The 500 pro equal marriage supporters far outnumbered a very small handful of anti equal marriage Christians.

A headcount of peers in the same-sex marriage debate for England and Wales indicates it could be a majority of just 10 out of a total chamber of 763

The future of gay marriage in England and Wales is on a knife-edge with campaigners warning it could all come down to the vote of just a few Lords.

Gay Star News can reveal a headcount by experts in parliament indicates there will be a slim majority in favor of same-sex marriage in the House of Lords – but it may be as small as 10 out of a chamber of up to 763.

Meanwhile Out4Marriage, in it’s public list, has 133 peers for gay marriage, 46 against with 585 undecided.

The GSN flashmob was filmed on Saturday 11 May, at The Scoop – an open-air performance space by City Hall, London.

It is being released for IDAHO today (17 May) – an event bringing together the LGBT community and their friends to promote equality worldwide.  

Luckily the rain held off to allow the musicians to perform the popular song ‘Bring me Sunshine’ - a tune we keep humming since rehearsals.

Over 100 South Korean LGBT people and allies star in a YouTube video in support of gay rights released this week (Monday 13 May).

Korean Gay Men's Human Rights Group Chingusai organized the recording of You Make me Proud, a song created by Sydney Gay and Lesbian choir to mark IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) in 2012.

Martha Wash will sing for thousands at New York’s 28th Annual 10k AIDS Walk

New York’s 28th Annual AIDS Walk will take place Sunday 19 May.

The 10k walk will see over 45,000 people participate, starting and ending in the city's Central Park.

Special guests will be headlining and promoting the cause, including Smash’s Megan Hilty, Glee’s Alex Newell, Ugly Betty’s Micheal Urie and Martha Wash singing You’ll Never Walk Alone.

To date the sponsored walk has raised $2,898,109 (£1,892,902, €2,233,559) all of which goes to Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and more that 40 other local AIDS service organizations.
