Gaydar responds to strong competition in gay men’s smartphone dating market with release of new service and promises changes to Gaydar Girls soon

International gay dating brand Gaydar is fighting back against its competitors today (3 May) with the launch of its new mobile web service.

Gaydar has long held a market-leading position for its desktop-based men’s dating site but has faced stiff competition from location-based dating apps like Grindr in recent years.

Dating sites Grindr and Gaydar pull advert that invited gay men to test for HIV protection gene. Test firm Cool Genes says ‘sorry’

Grindr and Gaydar have pulled an advert that invited gay and bi men to find out if they had a ‘cool gene’ that could protect them from HIV.

Now Cool Genes, a firm in Oxford, southern England, has apologized for advertising the £39 ($61 €45) service and said it will rethink the test.

The firm advertised on gay dating app Grindr and site Gaydar under headline ‘Got the cool gene?’

It was promoting a test that could find out whether you have a genetic mutation which makes it less likely you will contract HIV.

Just days after closing its radio station, dating company Gaydar pulls out of the nightlife business

Gay and lesbian dating site Gaydar has announced it is to close its bar and club in Soho, London – just days after also shedding its radio station.

Profile and Lo Profile, in the heart of the British capital’s gay district on Wardour Street, will shut today (7 January).

Gaydio claims to be biggest gay station in world after taking over Gaydar services

A British gay radio station claims it is now the biggest in the world after taking over broadcasters in London and Sussex.

Manchester-based digital station Gaydio now reaches over 850,000 listeners after it took control of Gaydar Radio last week.

Chris Holliday and Emma Goswell were the first voices on the newly expanded service, which now identifies as 'Gaydio, the Beat of Gay UK’.

Programme director of Gaydio, Toby Whitehouse, said: ‘Taking over these licences is a terrific opportunity for us.

From dating website add-on to a global brand, Gaydar Radio will hand over its DAB license to Manchester station Gaydio

Gaydar Radio will be turning off after 11 years of entertaining global audiences on 7 January.

The online station based in west London, which went from a dating website add-on to a global brand, will be handing over its DAB license to Manchester station Gaydio.

As part of the agreement between Gaydio and Gaydar Radio’s owner QSoft Consulting, the Gaydar dating brand will continue to be supported by on air editorial programming and advertising support.

British singer says although she hates the idea of being married, gay weddings are 'exciting'

British singer-songwriter Paloma Faith has said gay weddings are better than straight ones. 

Speaking to Gaydar Radio, she said although she felt strongly about the right to making your decisions about sexuality and marriage, she personally hated the idea of getting married.

'As a heterosexual female, I hate the idea of getting married,' Faith said. 'But I've been to a few gay weddings and I think they're much more exciting than normal ones.'

US pop star Ke$ha says she wants to be a gay man because they are 'magical people'.

The Tik Tok singer whose latest single Die Young is out now told Britain's Gaydar Radio that she feels a strong bond with gay men.

Asked if she would like to be a gay man, she answered: 'Are you joking? Yes, I do.'

Pop rocker believes it's 'asinine for one person to think they are better than another person'

Pop rocker Pink has spoken out in her characteristically frank way about her gay fans, marriage equality, and the upcoming US presidential election.

In an interview with Gaydar Radio’s breakfast hosts Neil Sexton and Debbie Ryan, the ‘Get The Party Started’ singer said it was important to represent her ‘really rad gay audience’.

Pink said: ‘I identify with people that struggle and I respect people that have to fight for their right to be respected.

Queer bar in Manchester re-opens in time for pride after attack forced it to close in July

A Manchester gay bar owned by former manager of British boyband Take That has been saved from closure just days before the UK city's pride festival.

The Canal Street pub called Queer faced closure after police called for an emergency licence review following an attack at the venue last month (July 2012) left a man bleeding from the head.

Nigel Martin-Smith ran a campaign to keep the bar open and has now finally been given the green light by the council to re-open under the condition only plastic glasses are used.

Gaydar offered ‘considerable financial support’ to bail out London’s World Pride but were told it was too late

Global dating and radio company Gaydar have confirmed to Gay Star News that they tried to bail out the scaled-down World Pride event but were told it was too late.

Last week Pride London bosses, responsible for running World Pride in the British capital this year, had to pull floats out of the 7 July march and axe the street party in the gay district of Soho due to a ‘cash crisis’ which meant they didn’t have enough money for safety and security contractors.

English RnB pop superstar Cheryl Cole has come out for equal marriage.

Cole, who is currently promoting her single Call My Name, has also urged everyone to take part in the UK government’s consultation on how to introduce equal civil marriage in England and Wales, which ends on Thursday (14 June).

She makes the comments while speaking to Neil Sexton and Debbie Ryan on Gaydar Radio’s N'Debz show, due to air on Saturday.

A crime cartel operating from the Thika Road, which links the capital, Nairobi to Thika Town, is targeting gay or bisexual men who are in relationships with women or with families, men who would be the most unlikely to report these crimes to the authorities.

Gay campaigners in South Africa have turned into sleuths to help solve the mystery of a series of murders of gay men in Gauteng Province.

The string of killings began with the killing of Manolis Veloudos in April 2010. Seven more gay men were killed under similar circumstances, culminating with the murder of Rulov Seneval in February 2012.

British all-girl pop band, The Saturdays, have become the first major celebrities to record a video for a new campaign promoting same-sex marriage.

Kathy Griffin's new weekly talk show debuts Thursday (19 April) on the Bravo network and the outspoken comedienne tells Gay Star News she knows darn well who her audience is.

'Honey, you are my demographic,' she said during a conference call this morning.

'The struggle on this show is to get one f***ing heterosexual [viewer]. This show is basically straight bashing at this point. We are very, very LGBTQI-friendly. We talk about those issues. ... My tentacles have been reaching into the community for a long time.'

A new gay dating messaging service allows people to tell ex-partners if they have an STI

Gay dating websites have launched a new messaging service to ease the pain of telling ex-lovers you have a sexually transmitted disease.

The confidential Sexual Health Messaging Service allows people who have been diagnosed with an STI to let their recent sexual partners know, via text, email or message to a gay dating site, so that they can get tested and, if necessary, treated.

Gay Ski Week NZ was in it’s ninth year last August when it all went horribly wrong. Three days before it was due to start Sally Whitewoods, who owns a backpacking hostel with her wife Mandy in Queenstown where the ski week was based, got a call from the organiser saying his company had gone into liquidation. ‘We just made last year happen within a 48 hour period,’ says Sally on the phone to Gay Star News from New Zealand. ‘Luckily we managed to keep everyone happy.’
