Italian PM blocks gay unions plan from his own equality minister

The new government has censored the Equality Minister Josefa Idem, who proposed a same-sex unions bill

The new Italian government has stopped new Equality Minister Josefa Idem from pushing forward a new law on same-sex civil unions.

The new Prime Minister Enrico Letta said: ‘This is not on the government’s agenda.’

Interviewed by the Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Idem, who’s a former Olympic champion, said: ‘We don’t want class B citizens.

‘All citizens should have the same rights and the same duties. We have to start from civil unions, then we will able to speak about something else.’

The mother of the 15-year-old boy who hanged himself after having been bullied on Facebook and at school in Rome, Italy, has denied he was gay.

'If he had been gay, he would have told me,' she said. 'The only pink was that of his sensibility. My son has been crucified like Jesus.’

At the funeral in Rome, Italy, the woman added: ‘His friends are now my only hope. But several people have defamed him. Now I want justice.’

Italian politician: 'Gays are ill and can't procreate'

Romano La Russa, Lombardy's secretary of security, attacked LGBT citizens but the Milan assembly refused to censor him

An Italian politician has launched an unprecedented attack against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens of the Mediterranean country.

Romano La Russa, the secretary of security for the Lombardy region, said: ‘Gays are ill. If everyone becomes gay, our society will disappear. We need couples made of men and women: only straight couples can procreate.’

La Russa is also the brother of the former national defense secretary Ignazio La Russa. Both are in the PDL party, the movement founded by the former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.
