Eight episodes of untitled dramatic comedy ordered by HBO

Jonathan Groff, most recently a regular on the Kelsey Grammer series Boss that was set in Chicago, is returning to television in a new series set in San Francisco.

Groff, openly gay in real life, heads the cast in the new untitled HBO series about a group of gay friends who live in The City By the Bay.

Also starring in the series will be Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett.

The man whose book is the basis for the upcoming HBO film on entertainer Liberace will not be able to watch it. His prison doesn't have the channel.

Scott Thorson, Liberace's ex-lover, has been in a Nevada jail since this past February. He is charged with buying a computer and cell phone with a credit card that wasn't his. Last Wednesday (8 May) he pleaded guilty and asked to be placed in a rehabilitation program. Punishment could range from probation to 2 to 30 years in prison.

Premium cable network has ordered a ‘complex’ relationship drama from the creator of Glee and American Horror Story.

Ryan Murphy, who also created gay relationship comedy The New Normal, has been given a pilot order for Open.

Stars do not hold back in gay love story about Liberace to air on HBO

In all of the publicity so far leading up to the May 26 premiere of Behind the Candelbra on HBO, straight stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon have insisted they did not hold back in portraying gay couple Liberace and Scott Thorson.

A new trailer - the first full-length one released so far - was unveiled on Monday (8 April) and indicates that viewers will see the two actors in bed together in intimate scenes and also show Damon emerging slowly from a swimming pool in a speedo.

Oscar winners play Liberace and his young lover in new HBO flick

The first trailer for the upcoming HBO film Behind the Candelabra does not show any sex scenes between the movie's two main characters Liberace and Scott Thorson.

But Entertainment Weekly, which features the film's stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon on its cover - in character - assures us there will be plenty of sex scenes to be seen in the movie.

'I personally have never had sex with a woman'

He's played a gay man on stage in The Book of Mormon and plays a gay man on TV in The New Normal.

But on HBO's Girls, Andrew Rannells is playing a character who is wondering if he might be bisexual instead of gay.

Off screen, Rannells does no such wondering.

'I personally have never had sex with a woman,' he tells New York magazine’s Vulture blog. 'I’m more of what you call gold-star gay. I’m purebred.'

Matt Damon, sitting with co-star Michael Douglas, director Steven Soderbergh and producer Jerry Weintraub, faced a ballroom filled with journalists on Friday (4 January) to answer questions about the upcoming HBO film Behind the Candelabra about Liberace and his young lover Scott Thorson.

When one journalist asked Damon of he considered the film to be a comedy - perhaps because Liberace was such a flamboyant performer - the actor uttered a quick and definitive 'No.'

After decades of development, The Normal Heart will begin shooting in New York City later this year to air on HBO in 2014 with Ryan Murphy as its director, the network announced Friday (4 January).

The film is written by Larry Kramer who also wrote the largely autobiographical Tony Award-winning play on which it is based. It is about the rise of the AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984.

The actors play lovers in upcoming flick about Liberace

Matt Damon had played a gay man in the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley and pretended to be gay in a memorable 2002 episode of the NBC sitcom Will & Grace.

But he had never before taken on a gay role that required the love scenes like he shared with Michael Douglas in the upcoming HBO film Behind the Candelabra about the late Liberace and his younger lover Scott Thorson.

James Parsons gets nod for Big Bang Theory, Sarah Paulson for Game Change, Tony Kushner nominated for writing screenplay for Lincoln

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association unveiled the nominations for its Golden Globe Awards on Thursday (13 December) and they included some nods for LGBT artists and characters.

Among them are Jim Parsons, the openly gay actor who stars on the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory. Parsons was nominated for best actor in a comedy or musical television series. 

Parsons won the Globe in 2011 and has also won two Emmys for his portrayal of the straight character of Sheldon Cooper.

High school children across the US are forming gay and straight student alliances. More and more athletes in colleges and universities are coming out to their teams. The National Basketball Association, National Football League and Major League Baseball all have anti-LGBT discrimination clauses in their contracts with players' unions. Despite all of this, no player in a major US sports has come out. Are they cowards?

Babies are healthy and husband Stephen Moyer are 'overjoyed'

Oscar winner Anna Paquin, who plays a telepathic vampire lover on HBO’s True Blood, has given birth to twins.

A spokesperson for Paquin and her husband, True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer, did not reveal the exact birth date or the sex of the children.

'The babies were born a few weeks early, but are in good health and both mom and dad are overjoyed,' the spokesperson said.

Filming has started on the HBO film Behind The Candelabra, based on the life of Liberace and his lover

Filming has begun on new HBO film Beyond the Candelabra starring Hollywood stars Matt Damon and Michael Douglas as gay lovers.

Action star Damon, who turned down the opportunity to star in The Bourne Legacy, was spotted in full 1970s gear including a pastel shirt, khaki trousers and a shaggy blonde wig yesterday (31 August).

Douglas, known for his Oscar-winning role in 1987, is playing the flamboyant pianist Liberace and Damon will be taking on the role of his young partner Scott Thorson.

Filmmaker Jeffrey Schwarz was afraid that a growing number of people had no idea who Vito Russo was.

But thanks to the acclaimed documentary Vito, which premieres tonight (23 July) on HBO, more people than ever will have a chance to learn about the man who authored The Celluloid Closet, the first book to critique Hollywood’s portrayals of gays on screen. He was a passionate advocate for justice and was at the forefront of the gay liberation movement and battle against AIDS for more than 20 years until his death in 1990.

True Blood star says: 'For a bisexual, it’s not about gender. That’s not the deciding factor for who they’re attracted to'

Oscar winner Anna Paquin, who plays a telepathic vampire lover on HBO’s True Blood, surprised many when she came out as bisexual in 2010.

Paquin, 29, made the announcement in a PSA video promoting the Give a Damn campaign, which features celebrities speaking out for equality. She says she has no regrets about being honest - especially in the context in which she did it.
