On TV interview Tony Abbott says he is disappointed in himself for saying he was threatened by homosexuality four years ago, but he still doesn't support gay marriage

In a TV interview four years ago Australian opposition leader Tony Abbott said he felt 'threatened' by homosexuality. Last night on 60 Minutes Abbott told the the same journalist that he now is disappointed with himself for that comment.

Abbott, who is ahead in the polls to become the next prime minister at the election in September, said he made the comment because the 'cohesion of my family was threatened at that time'.

Singer raising money for We Are Family Foundation

Singer Adam Lambert turns 31 today (29 January) and is using the occasion to raise money for a cause close to his heart.

The 2008 American Idol runner-up asked his fans to donate $31 to the We Are A Family Foundation which creates and supports programs that inspire and educate people about mutual respect, understanding, and appreciation of cultural diversity.

Former Eureka star first gained gay following with Opposite of Sex and More Tales of the City

Hunky actor Colin Ferguson guest stars on the Fran Drescher sitcom Happily Divorced this week (16 January) and a man dating the now gay ex-husband of Drescher's character.

Ferguson, best known for his run as the lead in the series Eureka, has never shied away from gay roles including one of his earlier parts in the cult classic independent flick The Opposite of Sex. He was also one of the stars of the gay-themed miniseries More Tales of the City.

A new video is going viral on YouTube, promoting equality for US soldiers

A YouTube video which calls for gay soldiers to be treated equally has gone viral.

The clip, by Freedom to Marry and OutServe, features two soldiers, one straight and one gay, with wounds and scars, ‘gained’ on the battleground.

However, it argues that the US military is forced to treat them, and their families, differently because of the 'Defense of Marriage Act'.

The video suggests that gay and straight soldiers are equal, both serving their country and both proud of their jobs.

A campaign by the Royal Dutch Football Association asks gay sportsmen to come out and the video is going viral

Why not step out of the closet? The team is on your side, a video sponsored by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) urges.

And the YouTube clip featuring a player trapped inside a real life closet was commissioned by Dutch broadcaster BNN, and is now going viral.

Soccer is not a gay-friendly environment, this is true. But in the Netherlands the main football association is trying to make footballers come out of the closet.

Actor who played Tilda Swinton's son from hell in We Have to Talk About Kevin says: 'I’m Queer'

In his latest film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Ezra Miller plays an out and proud gay teen.

The 19 year old is now publicly acknowledging that like his character in the film, he too is gay.

'I’m queer,' he tells Out magazine, on which he appears on the current cover. 'I have a lot of really wonderful friends who are of very different sexes and genders. I am very much in love with no one in particular.'

'I defy these homosexuals to bring forth a baby from that part of the anatomy which they concentrate on'

Televangelist Pat Robertson said this week that he wishes people demonstrating against fast food chain Chick-fil-A for its public stance against gay marriage and millions of dollars of contributions to anti-gay groups 'would shut their mouth.'

Robertson takes issue with college students around the US, including in New York, Virginia, North Carolina and Mississippi, who do not want a company they perceive as being against LGBT rights on their campuses.

'If I have a gay dance partner, we may have some interesting discussions'

While appearing before TV writers with fellow cast members of the all-star edition of ABC's Dancing With the Stars last month, Bristol Palin was asked if she would mind if she were paired with an openly gay male dancer in the competition.

Palin, star of the Lifetime reality show Life's a Tripp, said that just because she believes in 'traditional marriage,' does not mean that she's a 'homophobe.'

Creator Ryan Murphy shares scene after reaching 500,000 followers on Twitter

Glee creator Ryan Murphy joined Twitter only days ago but he already has more than 100,000 followers.

As a thank you to fans for helping him to reach the milestone so quickly, Murphy shared with his followers a never-aired scene between Glee couple Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) from last season's Christmas episode.

'Gleeks are the best fans in the world,' Murphy wrote on Twitter. 'Because you asked for it...here is the long lost Klaine Box Scene.'

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet among those to reject offer

Cam and Mitch want more money.

Well, at least the actors who portray the gay couple on ABC's Modern Family do.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet have joined castmates Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara on Tuesday (24 July) in suing to void their contracts on the Emmy winning show.

Thirty-nine-year-old singer says she wants to set an example for her son

Australian country singer Beccy Cole will come out publicly as a lesbian for the first time in televised interview tonight.

Cole was interviewed with her two country singer friends, Kasey Chambers and Gina Jeffreys, for Australian Story, a regular program on national TV channel ABC.

‘I think for years Beccy has had this secret, that she really does want people to know about but didn’t really know when was the right time and how to do it too,’ Jeffreys says on the program.

'I feel like those people should stop writing letters and get a hobby'

It was last fall that the Glee episode in which Chris Colfer's character of Kurt had sex with his boyfriend Blaine (Darren Criss) for the first time.

Even though the episode also featured the straight characters of Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith) also having their first sexual experience together, most of the backlash was focused on the gay couple.

Colfer talked about the controversy on ABC's The View Tuesday (17 July): 'I don't listen to those people. I feel like those people should stop writing letters and get a hobby.'

A number of British moviegoers put off by scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis

Some British moviegoers had issues with such films released in 2011 as The Hangover and Twilight sequels but no movie drew more complaints than the ballet drama Black Swan.

The reason for many of the complaints is the lesbian sex scene between Natalie Portman, who won a best actress Oscar for her performance, and her co-star Mila Kunis.

The British Board of Film Classification unveiled its annual report this week which states that the film drew 40 complaints about the scene which includes oral sex.

If you’re feeling like confidence in your physical attractiveness could use a boost, this new website might help, or not.

On Gaystagram, created by 23-year-old Pedro Duarte, you can rate the relative attractiveness of gay men.

It's a similar concept to that of early-2000s internet sensation HotorNot.com.

Users submit self-portraits taken on hipster photography app Instagram, by tagging them with #gaystagram.

Armando Montano was just 22 and interning for the Associated Press

Armando Montano had begun a summer internship for the Associated Press in Mexico City less than a month ago.

On Saturday, the 22-year-old aspiring journalist from Colorado was found dead in the elevator shaft of an apartment building near where he was living.

Montano, a member of the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Journalists, was not on assignment at the time of his death.

Entertainment Weekly cover story shines spotlight on new quiet and effective ways to go public

It used to be that when a major star came out as gay, they got an entire magazine cover to themselves.

Ellen DeGeneres got the Time cover, Lance Bass and Clay Aiken got People covers and Sean Hayes was among the many stars to have gotten an Advocate cover.

In the current issue of Entertainment Weekly which hit newsstands Friday (22 June), eight openly gay celebrities share the cover for a 'special report' called The New Art of Coming Out.

MTV's sister channel moving away from LGBT-only programming

It was back in February that Logo, the MTV sister channel that had been dedicated to LGBT content since its launch in 2005, announced that it would be going more mainstream.

A sure sign of that new direction came this week when it was learned that the channel is canceling The A-List, the Real Housewives-style reality show that was marketed with the slogan 'housewives with balls.'

Human Rights Campaign polls 10,000 youth who say their biggest concerns are non-accepting families and school bullying

Worried mostly about being accepted by their families and school bullying, only 37 percent of LGBT youth in the US consider themselves happy, according to a study released Thursday by the Human Rights Campaign.

HRC interviewed 10,000 self-identified LGBT youth ages 13-17 for its landmark 'Growing Up LGBT in America' survey.

 Queen Latifah  swats away coming out rumors

Rumors about the sexuality of singer and actress  Queen Latifah have circulated throughout her career. They were intensified by her 19 May performance at the Long Beach Gay Pride parade. She recently told the magazine Entertainment Weekly that showing up at a gay pride event should not be interpreted as her 'coming out.'

'That definitely wasn’t the case,' she said. 'I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public. It’s just not gonna happen.'

Says Broadway and television star: 'I am gay in real life ... I wasn’t closeted for any amount of time'

Andrew Rannells plays a gay man on HBO's Girls and on the upcoming NBC comedy The New Normal.

He is now also making it clear that he is gay off-screen as well.

The actor, who was nominated for a Tony Award for his lead role in the smash Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, mentioned his sexuality while discussing his role on Girls. He plays Elijah, the smug smug, fresh-out-of-the-closet ex-boyfriend of one of the show's main characters.

Max Pelofske says he showed up at a graduation party on Saturday (26 May) night to congratulate his friend's sister who was graduating from high school in just a few days.

The 21-year-old had been at the party at an abandoned gravel pit in Proctor, Minnesota, just a short time before he said he was confronted by a guy at the party.

Two-time Emmy winner confirms he has been in 10-year relationship

There was no Lance Bass or Clay Aiken-type People magazine cover for Jim Parsons who came out publicly near the end of a New York Times article on Wednesday.

The star of the highly-rated CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory was profiled as he is set to star on Broadway in the play Harvey and it states: 'Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship.'

American Idol alum loses to Arsenio Hall on Celebrity Apprentice

Clay Aiken didn't let coming in second on American Idol more than a decade ago stop him from going on to become one of the biggest stars ever to emerge from that reality show competition.

Still, the openly gay singer was hoping to finish first on NBC's Celebrity Apprentice after making it to the finals of Donald Trump's reality show and facing off against former talk show host Arsenio Hall.

'My mother's here tonight and she's already sat through me losing once,' Aiken told the live studio audience before Trump made his final decision.
