Merertz party Member of the Knesset (MK) Nitan Horowitz has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of using gay rights to attack Iran but says there has been no progress on LGBTI rights under his leadership.

‘In almost every major speech he’s given overseas in the last few years, he has used the LGTB community in Israel as a means to attack Iran,’ Horowitz, Israel’s first openly gay lawmaker, said yesterday according to Haaretz.

Tel Aviv’s Meir Park is to be the site of Israel’s first monument recognizing the gay victims of Nazi Germany

Israel will get its first monument to the gay men persecuted by the Nazi regime under a plan by Tel Aviv’s municipal government.

The monument, which will feature a giant pink concrete triangle reminiscent of the symbol used by the Nazis to mark out homosexual prisoners, will be built in Tel Aviv’s Meir Park – with plans for it to be unveiled before the year’s end.

The monument was the brainchild of Meretz Party municipal council member Eran Lev who took the idea to Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai.

Yael German, Israel’s new minister of health, has instructed a public committee to deliberate the removal of a ban on blood donations from gay men

In her first move as Israel's new health minister, Yael German instructed the ministry staff today (25 March) to reconsider the ban on accepting blood donations from gay men.

The form filled out by every blood donor in Israel states that men who have had sex with other men are prohibited from donating blood.

People who are HIV positive, used drugs or been exposed to mad-cow disease, among other constraints, are also prohibited from donating blood.

Israel's ministry of health found that infection rate amongst gay men is five times more common than among straights

There has been a 55% increase in HIV infections among gay men since 2005, according to the Israeli ministry of health figures.

According to the figures the rate of HIV infection among gay men is 4.5 times the rate of infection among heterosexuals, reported Haaretz daily.

A court appeals committee set a legal precedent, instructing Israel's defense ministry to  compensate a three year-old girl who lost her mother's female partner.

The court decision recognized yesterday (13 February) the late Faviola Bohadana, as the girl's step-parent, overruling a refusal by Israel's defines ministry.

The girl's biological mother, Rahel Algavassi, has been in a lesbian relationship with Bohadana for five years prior to her death during a large scale fire incident in December 2010.

The Israel High Court of Justice on Sunday recommended the state clarifies legal procedures for gay couples seeking surrogacy, as a legal framework does not exist and this amounts to discrimination.

The court ruling came yesterday (3 January) after it heard a case involving two gay male couples asking to be recognized as the parents of children born to surrogate mothers in the United States.

A court has ordered the ministry of interior of Israel to register a gay couple as divorced after it continually rejected their requests.

Yesterday (2 November) a Ramat Gan family court approved the request of Uzi Even, a former Israeli member of parliament and professor at Tel Aviv University, and Amit Kama, who teaches communications at Max Stern Yezreel Valley College, to order Israel’s ministry of interior to register them as divorced.
