At one point during Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood, host Seth MacFarlane said the crowd: 'We're concerned tonight's show isn't gay enough yet.'

He then introduced the cast of Chicago, the 2002 film musical with a huge gay fan base, to present the award for best original song to gay icon Adele.

Director of Hairspray is engaged to man he met on date with someone else

When Gay Star News asked various celebrities over the weekend why they were at the Family Equality Council dinner, director Adam Shankman by far had the more interesting answer: 'Rather soon I'm going to be starting a family.'

The director of such films as Hairspray, The Wedding Planner and Rock of Ages, got engaged last April to Frank Meely who works in casting and reality television.

'I met him at his birthday party,' Shankman recalls. 'I was on a date, my date took me to his birthday party and he really shouldn't have (laughs). And now we're engaged.'

Will be only her second singing performance at Oscars

Barbra Streisand will be singing at this year's Academy Awards.

The Oscars, being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, will feature a tribute to movie musicals.

They said in a statement to ABC News Wednesday (30 January): 'In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand? We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance.'

But the prolific producer of such movies as Chicago and Hairspray took some time out to chat with Gay Star News about another little project that has been taking up just about all his time: producing, with Meron, the 85th Annual Academy Awards.

Neil Meron and Craig Zaden, the team behind the big screen musicals Chicago and Hairpray, have been selected as producers of the 2013 Academy Awards.

'We are very excited to collaborate with Hawk and everyone at the Academy to produce this year's Oscars,' Zadan and Meron said in a joint statement Thursday (23 August). 'We hope to utilize our experience in producing features, TV and theater to bring something fresh and special to this incredible awards show.'

After calling on the 'Grease' star to come out, the Parks and Recreation actress is apologizing

Hollywood actress Rashida Jones has apologized for saying Hairspray star John Travolta should come out and say he is gay.

In an interview with Spinning Platters to promote her new romantic comedy Celeste & Jesse Forever, Jones talked about the importance of closeted A-listers being open about their sexuality.

She said: ‘A movie star. Like, John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this!’

It must be hard being John Travolta recently, with the continuing rumors surrounding the Hollywood actor’s sexuality.

So it is understandable he has taken some time out with wife Kelly Preston to holiday in a beautiful island of Greece, Mykonos, also known as one of the world’s greatest gay destinations.

While Travolta was surely hoping Greece would be the word on everyone’s lips, plenty of people are asking why he would choose a ‘gay’ island for vacation.

Festival marking its 30th year and is honoring John Waters

Los Angeles's gay and lesbian film festival, Outfest, kicks off its 30th year tonight by honoring filmmaker John Waters and screening a documentary about activist and film historian Vito Russo.

Walters will be on hand to receive the 16th annual achievement award which has previously gone to Jane Lynch, Sir Ian McKellen, Gus Van Sant, Todd Haynes, and Bill Condon, among others.

Music and film star referred to crowd in Long Beach as 'her people'

When it was announced that Queen Latifah would be a headliner at last weekend's Long Beach pride festival in Southern California, there was immediate speculation that the Oscar-nominated actress might be making some kind of announcement.

'I've been waiting to do this for a long time,' she said to the crowd before performing some of her early hip-hop hits during a short set on Sunday (20 May).

But Latifah did not make any headline-grabbing remarks that might shed any definitive light onto her often-speculated about sexuality.

Split comes after date of accusation appears have been proven incorrect

One of the male masseurs who is suing actor John Travolta for sexual battery and harassment has split with his lawyer as some details in his case appear to be faulty.

The man, known only as John Doe 1, alleges he was accosted by Travolta during a massage at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Jan. 16. But photos and a restaurant receipt published by TMZ on Wednesday appear to prove that Travolta was in New York on that day.

Zac Efron’s pro-gay t-shirt says ‘Some dues marry dudes. Get over it’

A picture of Zac Efron wearing a t-shirt that supports gay marriage is being shared on Twitter.

The slogan on the t-shirt states ‘Some dudes marry dudes, get over it’.

The t-shirt comes from the FCKH8.com site which makes a donation for every item they sell in their fashion range to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender causes.

The site claims to have raised over $250,000 (€193,000) for gay charities and distributes the cash quarterly.
