When Neil Patrick Harris begins previews on Broadway in the musical Hedwig and Angry Inch on 29 March, he wants to be believable as a transsexual punk rock girl from East Berlin.

It is taking some hard work.

'I've deemed it very important to make sure that I don't seem uncomfortable in Hedwig's skin and it's a skin that's very unknown to me,' Harris said over the weekend after being feted at Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Man of the Year.

'I assume this is for that pudding wrestling competition I won last April…right?'

It's not mentioned anywhere in the official press release.

But Neil Patrick Harris made a little bit of history today when he was named The Hasty Pudding Theatricals 2014 Man of the Year.

It marks the first time the Harvard University theater group has chosen an openly gay man for the honor.

Harris, currently starring in his final season on TV's long-running How I Met Your Mother, reacted to being selected with his typical brand of humor.

Niall Ferguson hit the headlines for saying 20th century economics guru John Maynard Keynes had a flawed, short-term view because he was gay

There are a lot of sound reasons to critique Keynesian economics, but a reason that its creator was gay – or rather bisexual – shouldn’t be one of them.

Niall Ferguson, the Laurence A Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University, has sadly, in 2013, just found that out.

Ferguson’s speech to investors and financial analysts at the 10th Annual Altegris Conference in Carlsbad, California should have awed his audience. Instead it shocked and offended them.
