Sir Elton John and REM frontman Michael Stipe have called on Georgia's department of corrections to provide hormone therapy and safety to transgender women housed in male prisons.

The openly gay singer and the bisexual Georgia native issued a joint statement Sunday (7 April), a few days after the US Justice Department called the state’s denial of hormone therapy to trans inmates a 'cruel and unusual punishment.'

Jailed whistleblower is allowed to transition, a first for the armed forces in the US

Chelsea Manning, the whistleblower that leaked military secrets, will be allowed hormone treatment according to reports.

The jailed Wikileaks soldier was approved for gender treatment at the Army's Fort Leavenworth prison.

But while this is a first for the Army to allow a jailed soldier hormones to transition, Manning will be forced to keep a 'male' short haircut.

According to the colonel who approved the treatment, Manning will not be allowed to grow her hair as it could be a 'security' risk.

Indian LGBT people demands more rights and less discrimination at fifth Chennai Pride

The city of Chennai in the southeastern Indian state of Tamil Nadu is hosting its fifth Pride celebration this month. 

The month-long festival this year includes media training on LGBT issues, a discussion on local TV channels, information on hormone therapy for trans people, meeting for parents of LGBT people and a Pride march on 30 June.

One of the most serious complaints which prompted Britain’s General Medical Council to investigate Dr Richard Curtis was filed by a patient who had a double mastectomy and hormone therapy but later regretted the decision.

Montenegro has joined countries like Cuba in covering gender reassignment procedures through their universal healthcare system.

The change in this Montenegrin law ensures that healthcare covers 80% of the three-step gender assignment procedure, which consists of: psychotherapy, hormone therapy, and the medical procedures in gender reassignment including changing genitalia.
