Thai Transgender Alliance demand response from IKEA Global on 'negative and stereotypical' advert

Thai Transgender Alliance have sent an open letter to IKEA to complain about a 'negative and stereotypical' advert.

The offending advert, called Luem Aeb (meaning 'forget to deceive'), was broadcast on Bangkok's sky train system from 28 December 2012 to 13 January 2013 and on YouTube.

'The MTF transgender/transwomen character is openly mocked as being "deceitful",' read the open letter to IKEA from Thai Transgender Alliance.

Employees' benefits are extended to same-sex partners for the first time in Italy

IKEA Italia has extended the employees’ benefits and welfare to the same-sex partners.

The announcement comes on International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia today (17 May).

It is the first time a major company in Italy has made the move and the Swedish brand decided to do it in order to boost Italian discussions about LGBT people’s rights.

From today IKEA's gay and lesbian employees can ask for maternity, paternity or emergency leave, can have their partners’ health insurance, redeem a wedding voucher and have partner discounts at IKEA.

A national conference about gay rights in workplaces will be held in Rome on 17 and 18 of May

A national conference on diversity management and the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender workers will be held in Rome, Italy, the 17 and 18 of May.

Parks Liberi e Uguali, an Italian association of gay-friendly businesses, has organized the GLBT People at Work conference. Among them are Lilly, IKEA, Johnson & Johnson, Telecom Italia and IBM.

Parks executive director Ivan Scalfarotto told Gay Star News: ‘The conference is a great occasion for businesses and enterprises.
