An extreme right wing movement left an insulting banner in front of the headquarters of Italy's main gay association

Italy's main LGBT association, Arcigay, headquarters situated in Bologna Northern Italy, has been defaced by men belonging to an extreme right wing movement Forza Nuova.

The group, which call for ‘a new Fascist era in Italy’, left a banner in front of the association's headquarters stating: ‘Perversions must be cured’.

In response, Bologna’s politicians have expressed solidarity with the Arcigay.  

Mayor Virginio Merola said: ‘It’s simply disgusting.’

Italian Member of Parliament Carlo Giovanardi says that the American 'don't ask don't tell' rule was a good one and that gay soldiers should not come out

‘Gay soldiers should sleep in different rooms’ to avoid ‘corrupting’ the straight ones, an Italian politican has said.

Member of Parliament Carlo Giovanardi made the statement, the latest in a series of provocations to the LGBT community, two days ago when interviewed by a radio journalist.

He added: ‘Gay soldiers should not come out and the American "don’t ask don’t tell rule" was a good one.’

The US military dropped 'don't ask, don't tell' last September with no negative impact on morale.

Member of regional parliament of Veneto Santino Bozza calls gays 'sick perverts' that need 'a cure'

‘Gays are ill and perverted and need a cure. They should not walk in the street in the daylight. Our children would be scared,’ said Italian politician Santino Bozza.

The new attack against LGBT people in Italy comes from the member of the regional parliament of Veneto in the north of the country.

Interviewed by the radio national programme La Zanzara, Bozza said: ‘In my party, the Lega Nord, there are no gay or lesbian politicians, that’s sure.

Italian MP Massimo Polledri, Lega Nord, says that 'homosexuals have to go to the psychologist to feel better'

‘A gay son? It would be worse than my daughter wanting to be a nun or to marry someone from Morocco.’

That's the comment from Italian MP Massimo Polledri, of Lega Nord Party, who also said that a gay son ‘would be the worst thing it could happen to me.’

Interviewed by the radio programme La Zanzara, on Radio 24 on Monday (4 June), the Italian politician, also a psychiatrist, added that ‘homosexuals are not happy. They go to psychologist and that’s the only way to feel better.’

Carlo Giovanardi of Silvio Berlusconi's party PDL admitted 'persecution' but said: 'The only Holocaust was that of Jews'

The Italian politician Carlo Giovanardi of PDL, former premier Silvio Berlusconi’s party, has denied lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people went through the Nazi Holocaust.

Interviewed by journalist Klaus Davi for the Youtube programme KlausCondicio, Giovanardi said: ‘The “gay” Holocaust has never occurred. They have experienced persecution, of course, but the only Holocaust was that of Jews.’

Carlo Giovanardi, ally of former Italian PM Berlusconi, says being gay is 'unnatural'

An ally of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has compared gay public displays of affection to 'peeing in the street.'

Carlo Giovanardi, junior minister in charge of family affairs in Berlusconi's government, made the comments during an interview with Radio24.

He said: 'How does it make you feel when someone pees? If they do it in the bathroom, that's ok. But if they pee in the street in front of you it's offensive.'
