US. Department of Homeland Security announces gay bi-national couples might not face deportation hearings

The US Department of Homeland Security will soon announce gay bi-national couples are eligible to have their deportations temporarily suspended.

According to the Associated Press, Secretary Janet Napolitano sent a letter to 84 Democratic lawmakers announcing the policy change. In the US, immigration regulations are handled by Homeland Security.

Geraldo Rivera is no stranger to controversy and earlier today (17 August), he invited more.

During an appearance on Fox and Friends, the veteran broadcaster was involved in a discussion about a top aide to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano who has taken leave amid charges of sexual harassment and anti-male discrimination.

Said Rivera: 'I have a question, is this subtext of the Department of Homeland Security scandal — that there is some kind of lesbian cabal, that it’s a same-sex takeover of the big agencies?'

Jan Brewer is requesting the Supreme Court reverse a ruling that gave benefits, including health insurance, to same-sex partners of state employees
 

Arizona's governor wants to do away with same-sex partner benefits.

Republican lawmaker Jan Brewer filed a petition on 2 July (Monday) to the Supreme Court to reverse a September 2011 ruling that gave health benefits to same-sex partners who are state employees.

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled in Diaz vs Brewers that benefits could not be refused based on sexual orientation.

US Senator John Kerry appeals to Department of Homeland Security on the couple's behalf 

A binational lesbian couple married in the state of Massachusetts is grappling with possible deportation.

Gloria and Jacquelyn, whose surnames are ommitted for security reasons, risk deportation from the United States because Jacquelyn can't legally sponsor Gloria's visa.

Though the state of Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriage in 2004, the Defense of Marriage Act passed in 1996 mandates that federal law only recognize the marriage rights between a man and a woman.

An activist group in trying to bring gay and lesbian couples together in the US for the holidays.

GetEqual is concerned about ‘binational’ couples where one is an American citizen and one is a foreign national.

Because of discriminatory laws in the US and the fact same-sex couples can’t marry there these couples are often unable to live together in the USA.
