College student defended his two moms before Iowa legislators and footage of his moving comments is most-watched political clip of the year on YouTube

Zach Wahls just wanted to defend his family.

When he faced Iowa legislators during a public hearing last January about a constitutional amendment to reverse the Iowa Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in the state, he said his family isn't so different than any other Iowa family. They  just wanted to be treated equally and fairly by the government.

Video of the moving comments made by the 19-year-old college student quickly went viral and, it was announced this week, became the most-watched political clip on YouTube in 2011.

University of Iowa student calls for holiday cheer and marriage rights

Zach Wahls continues to defend gay and lesbian families. Earlier this year the University of Iowa student turned into a media sensation when he spoke up for his lesbian parents at an Iowa public hearing to revoke the state's 2009 marriage law.

The engineering student, with the help of MoveOn.org, sent out a mass email asking people to make holiday photos in support of marriage equality.
