A suspected gang of serial killers targeting gay men in South Africa may now be operating in Cape Town following another murder under the same circumstances

South African police are looking into whether an organized gang that robs and murders gay men may now be operating in Cape Town following another similar killing.

Since April of 2010 eight gay men have been found murdered under similar circumstances in the South African province of Gauteng which houses the cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The gang allegedly gain the trust of their victims so that they will let them into their homes where they are then tied up and strangled before the gang ransack their homes for valuables.

Gay Games organizers 'reach out' to head of South Africa's Olympic committee after he sparked fury over his 'clearly derogatory' remarks

Gay Games organizers have responded to 'derogatory' comments by South Africa's Olympic committee that the world's largest fully inclusive athletics tournament isn't 'serious sport'.

Head of South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), Gideon Sam, reportedly mocked the Gay Games at the Sports Industry Summit in Johannesburg on 25 October.

He said SASCOC did not govern the event because the body was involved in the administration of 'serious sport' in South Africa.

South African girl is promised gender reassignment and breast enlargement if she reaches her goal weight of 10 stone

A South African girl is set to drop 100 kilograms (16 stone) in order for her to have gender reassignment surgery.

Raven El Messaoudi, 15, from Johannesburg, has lived as a girl for ten months since coming out as transgender.

The teenager used to live on a diet of 14 eggs-on-toast for breakfast, a McDonald’s meal of a Big Mac and three cheeseburgers for lunch and fried chicken and pasta for dinner.

Atim Ogwal Cecilia Barbara says Africa should pass a continent-wide resolution condemning homosexuality

A Uganda lawmaker is calling for the life imprisonment of all African gay people.

Speaking at the Pan African Parliament in Johannesburg on 9 October, Atim Ogwal Cecilia Barbara failed to convince other lawmakers to pass a continent-wide resolution that condemns, prohibits and punishes homosexuality.

Barbara said: ‘Africa must stand up. We must pass a resolution condemning homosexuality because it is not an African culture.

‘We are not allowed to practice polygamy in other countries, why should we be forced to do what is not natural?’

An LGBT group clashed with Johannesburg gay pride organizers when they lay down on the route to demand a minute's silence for gay murder victims

LGBT group '1 in 9' disrupted Johannesburg Pride with a lie-down protest on Saturday (6 October), and clashed with the gay march's organizers.

The pride is the biggest on the African continent with 20,000 celebrants.

The ambush-style demo saw a brief violent exchange where those at the scene say demonstrators were stepped on and verbally abused by pride organisers and participants.

The correspondence, papers and photographs, which were owned by German Jewish bodybuilder Hermann Kallenbach, are expected to fetch between £500,000 to £700,000 ($777,000 to $1.1m).

German born Andreas Derleth wins the global gay male beauty and intellect pageant in South Africa

New Zealand’s entrant has won the title of Mr Gay World, announced yesterday (8 April) at the finals in Johannesburg, South Africa.

German born Andreas Derleth, 32, a stationary store manager living in Auckland, impressed the judges of the global male pageant with his statuesque physique, his ability in the obstacle course, and his knowledge of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history.

Mr Gay World competitors in Johannesburg, South Africa take on sports, receptions, parties, elephants and the Belgian embassy

Mr Gay World contestants have spent the last few days absorbing South African culture and stripping off to take part in a ‘sports challenge’.

Delegates from around the world are attending the event in Johannesburg but Mr Gay New Zealand, Andrea Derleth, have picked up the prize so far, for an obstacle course and written exam on questions about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history.

Fears for safety of Mr Gay World's black African contestants, as Zimbabwean pulls out and Ethiopia's entry receives death threats

The Mr Gay World contestant from Ethiopia may not be able to return to his country after receiving death threats.

The global male beauty pageant, which is this year held in Johannesburg, from 4 to 8 April, was last week celebrating after getting its first black African finalists.

Mr Gay World's first black African finalists may help fight anti-gay laws across the continent

Mr Gay World's first black African finalists will send out a 'powerful message of hope', say organizers.

Robel Gizaw Hailu from Ethiopia, Wendelinus Hamutenya from Namibia, Lance Weyer from South Africa and Taurai Zhanje from Zimbabwe, will compete in the global male beauty pageant in Johannesburg, from 4 to 8 April.

Homosexuality is illegal in 38 African countries, with Mauritania, Sudan, and northern Nigeria allowing for the death penalty.

Mr Gay World's Africa director Coenie Kukkuk has hailed the news as a major development.

The capital of the Philippines, Manila, played host to the Mr Gay World Competition in March this year. But in November we headed over there again to see the locals choose their entry for 2012’s contest. The final was held in Bed Bar (www.bed.com.ph), one of Manila's most popular gay clubs and by the time the boys made their entrance onto the stage the venue was packed with friends, family and well-wishers.
