At concert, singer invites Rosie O'Donnell and Liza Minnelli onstage to sing back-up Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Cyndi Lauper, opening up for Cher on the current Dressed to Kill tour, decided to share the spotlight over the weekend while performing her classic hit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

She was joined on state at the Barclays Center in New Jersey first by Rosie O'Donnell who she toured with several years ago on the True Colors tour benefiting LGBTI youth.

Then O'Donnell pointed out that there was another gay icon in the audience - a woman whose mother (Judy Garland) was the original gay icon - Miss Liza Minnelli.

It's been nearly three weeks since the Academy Awards took place but Liza Minnelli still isn't laughing at the drag queen joke made at her expense by host Ellen DeGeneres.

'To tell you the truth I was surprised and then a little hurt,' she said Thursday during an interview with drag legend Coco Peru.

'We were there to celebrate mama.'

Minnelli was in the audience with sister Lorna Luft and brother Joey Luft to take a bow before the start of a tribute to The Wizard of Oz which starred their mother Judy Garland.

'I think she thought it would be funny ... I think it went a bit astray on her'

Liza Minnelli doesn't think Ellen DeGeneres' joke on Oscar night about her being a drag queen was so funny.

Minnelli, for decades a popular character for drag performers, was sitting in the audience of the Dolby Theatre with siblings Lorna and Joey Luft when DeGeneres joked that it was actually a drag queen and not Liza.

'Good job, sir!' DeGeneres joked as Minnelli looked confused and her sister Lorna roared with laughter.

Turns out Minnelli, the 1973 Oscar winner for Cabaret, wasn't so thrilled with the execution of the joke.

The younger daughter of Judy Garland talked this week about her mother's connection to her gay male fanbase and about the Stonewall riots which began in the days after Garland's death in 1969.

The riots at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City are widely considered as the single most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight in the US for LGBT equality.

The gay icon is the latest to join NOH8, a photo campaign that raises awareness of California’s same-sex marriage ban 

The legendary Liza Minnelli has thrown her support behind marriage equality in California.

The Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Grammy award-winning Hollywood legend unveiled her portrait for the NOH8 campaign.

The photo-series created by Adam Bouska promotes gender and marriage equality through portraits of people with their mouths taped shut and NOH8 painted on their faces.

In addition to her portrait, Minnelli had a loving message for the LGBT community: ‘Here’s what I believe … no shame, no blame, no guilt.'

Gay icon will perform song with Tony winner Christian Borle

NBC has secured Broadway legend Liza Minnelli to guest star as herself in the upcoming second season of its series Smash.

Minnelli, a three-time Tony Award winner and an Oscar winner for the movie musical Cabaret, will appear in an episode titled The Surprise Party to air sometime in the spring. She will perform an original song with Christian Borle who plays a Broadway composer who happens to be gay.

Gay son of singing icon finally sharing his vocal talent with audiences

Barbra Streisand has done some pretty dazzling duets in her time with the likes of Judy Garland, Neil Diamond, Donna Summer, Tony Bennett and Celine Dion, among others.

But her latest duet partner is someone much closer to her heart: son Jason Gould who has been joining the singing icon for a duet as part of her current Back to Brooklyn tour.

Video has surfaced on Youtube (see below) of mother and son performing How Deep is the Ocean last week in Philadelphia.

After the duet, Streisand said: “Is that unbelievable? It’s just just because I’m his mom!”

News that a search has begun in the US to find the nation's best Judy Garland act is sure to send fans of the gay icon over the rainbow.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz in 2014, the National Judy Garland Talent Search hopes to find one finalist per US state to compete for the countrywide title.

Contestants, ranging from 18 to 45 years of age, will be judged based on their overall appearance and vocal talent.
