British gay couples are being urged to consider fostering or adoption as a new study shows they make great parents

As a new study shows adopted children of same-sex parents are thriving, the UK government is urging more gay couples to adopt.

The report released by the British Association of Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) details the experiences of 130 adoptive families, 49 of which are run by heterosexual couples, 41 by gay men and 40 by lesbian parents.

Carried out by Cambridge University’s Center for Family Research into adoptive parenting, its release today (4 March) coincides with LGBT Adoption and Fostering week.

The American Sociological Association files supreme court brief in support of gay marriage and LGBT parenting

The American Sociological Association (ASA), joined the challenges to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Proposition 8 currently before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The ASA filed a friend-of-the-court brief today (28 February) outlining the latest in social science research into same-sex parenting, stating 'children fare just as well' which was a concern raised by opponents of marriage equality.

In a press release posted to the organization’s website, ASA President Cecilia Ridgeway said: 'The results of our review are clear.

Labour MP Chris Bryant has asked the Welsh Secretary David Jones to retract his comments saying gay people 'clearly' could not raise children

A gay member of parliament has responded to the Welsh Secretary David Jones’ controversial comments on gay parents.

In a controversial interview on Welsh television, he said gay couples ‘clearly’ could not raise children.

‘I regard marriage as an institution that has developed over many centuries, essentially for the provision of a warm and safe environment for the upbringing of children, which is clearly something that two same-sex partners can’t do,’ Jones said.

The first study into LGBT parents in Ireland revealed legal vulnerability which adversely affects gay families.

The study, published yesterday (13 February), examined the experiences of 153 LGBT people who are already parents to 272 children and 170 people who are actively attempting to become parents.

YouTube videos from gay fathers Brian and Jay in Santa Rosa, California share universal family values

Gay Family Values (GFV) is a series of parenting advice YouTube videos made by gay fathers Brian and Jay.

The series was first started in August 2009 to show families with same-sex parents are not that different from other families in response to the Prop 8 vote in California which de-legalized gay marriage.

GFV's latest episode answers two questions. The first, asked by Leah from France, is how do Brian and Jay's children, Daniel, Selena and Nicholas, explain that they have two fathers to new people they meet.

When a new baby is born, now the parents are indicated as 'partners' instead of 'mom' and 'dad'

A hospital in Padua, in northern Italy's Veneto region, has started to write on new parents’ bracelets ‘partner’ instead of ‘mom’ and ‘dad’.

The new move was requested by a lesbian couple who gave birth to a baby on New Year’s Eve, following an In Vitro Fertilisation abroad.

The two mothers would not accept a bracelet indicating one of them as a ‘dad’.

The Padua hospital, like all the hospitals in Italy, provides the bracelets when a new baby is born.

A US Christian Sociologist claimed that watching porn is responsible for increased support of marriage equality 

Mark Regnerus, an associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Texas, claimed that watching porn makes straight men support marriage equality.

Regnerus made these claims in an article published late last week on the Witherspoon Institute site, a Christian organization with strong links the Family Research Council, a group well known to promote discredited anti-gay ‘research’.

A member of the right-wing UK Independence Party claims gay adoption is 'child abuse'.

The party's culture spokesman, Winston McKenzie, called for a ban on gay and lesbian people adopting.

The Christian spoke to The Metro ahead of the Croydon North by-election on Thursday (29 November) in which the former boxer is running to become a Member of Parliament.

During the interview, he said: 'To say to a child, "I am having you adopted by two men who kiss regularly but don't worry about it" - that is abuse.

Director Mike Buonaiuto questions why same-sex parent families go unrecognised in Europe

Today (5 November) sees the launch of a new campaign focusing on gay parenting rights throughout Europe.

The short film, entitled Invisible Parents, features the voice of a woman reminiscing about a happy childhood with her two fathers, before stating that the majority of Europe does not recognize families with gay parents.

The film is directed by Mike Buonaiuto, the man behind Homecoming, the video that went viral earlier this year. Invisible Parents launches to coincide with the UK's National Adoption Week.

New film hopes to raise support for the rights of same-sex parents

A behind the scenes trailer for a new documentary about same-sex parenting has been released on YouTube.

Invisible Parents is directed by Mike Buonaiuto, who also released a short feature film earlier in the year in support of same-sex marriage.

The teaser, available now online, features behind the scenes footage on the new film along with an interview with Buonaiuto.

The film is supported by organisations such as Pink Parenting and the Network of European LGBT Families Associations (NELFA).

A documentary on the legalization of same-sex marriage in Argentina will be shown nationwide starting tomorrow (October 1).

Familias Por Igual follows the stories of five gay parents and their families, who share how their lives have changed since the Argentine government legalized same-sex marriage in 2010.

Gay actor Rupert Everett has ridiculed the idea of two men raising a child.

In an interview with the Sunday Times today (16 September), he said: ‘I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads.’

The 53-year-old actor, who is well known for playing a gay man who made Madonna pregnant in The Next Best Thing, said the gay community should not be offended as he does not consider himself a role model.

The University of Texas has backed the author of a controversial study which claimed that children with gay or lesbian parents fared worse than other children despite the journal that published it declaring it ‘bulls-t’ not worthy of publication.

The University of Texas backed the conduct of sociologist Mark Regnerus without even conducting a formal investigation.

Police, education and health services failing Britain’s lesbian, gay and bisexual ethnic minorities

Britain’s 400,000 black and minority ethnic people who are also lesbian, gay or bisexual are not having their needs met by public services.

That’s the main finding of a report by leading gay campaign organization Stonewall and the Runnymede Trust – released today (13 August).

Although based on just 50 in-depth interviews, it reveals a consistent picture that black or Asian people are assumed to be straight – and that results in poorer-quality public services, from healthcare to policing.

The American Family Association's head has defended his comments, saying 'God's law, not man's law, must be followed'

A prominent right-wing American pundit has defended his comments calling for kidnapping children of gay parents, saying it is 'God's law'.

Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association (AFA) tweeted on Tuesday (7 August) that we need an ‘Underground Railroad to deliver innocent children from same-sex households’.

In the last 24 hours Fischer defended the comments on his show Focal Point on the AFA network, saying: ‘God’s law, not man’s law, is to be followed’.

Leading British charity Action for Children to back key adopters and foster carers event next year

Action for Children has been chosen as one of the main sponsors of Britain’s second ever LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week.

LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week, which will run from 4 to 10 March next year, is a national campaign run by New Family Social, the UK charity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adopters and foster carers.

The week aims to find more families from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities to change the lives of children currently in care.

The capital city of Buenos Aires is registering Tobias, a three-week old boy born in India, to two fathers without differentiating between biological and paternal parent

Argentina is registering its first same-sex parent birth certificate.

According to an announcement by LGBT rights group Federación Argentina (FALGBT), the civil registry of Buenos Aires will officially register Tobias, a three-week old baby boy born in India, to gay parents Carlos Dermgerd and Alejandro Grinblat.

This allows the two fathers, who reportedly had problems filling out birth forms that were not suited for filing from two men, to take Tobias safely out of India and travel to Argentina.

A controversial study into same-sex parenting that claimed to show that children of same-sex couples had worse outcomes has been dismissed as ‘bullsh-t’ by the professor assigned to evaluate the peer review process that lead to it being published.

The paper ‘How different are the adult children of parents who have same-sex relationships? Findings from the New Family Structures Study’ by University of Texas sociologist Mark Regnerus was published earlier this year by the journal Social Science Research.

PFLAG Australia president addresses Premier Campbell Newman in personal letter

Queensland for Equality has wasted no time starting their campaign against the repeal of rights for gay people in the Australian state.

The newly formed gay rights group took out a full page advert in the state newspaper, the Courier Mail, with PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Australia.

The advert takes the form of a letter from the president of PFLAG Australia, Shelley Argent, to the Queensland premier, Campbell Newman.
