This year's Big Weekend takes pride in the best local performers to produce the party in August

Manchester Pride has updated its weekend bill with performances from Kate Nash and Misha B, and regional talent from north-west England.

Pride has pledged support for the city’s local acts to bring a truly Big Weekend to the fans from 23 to 26 August.

Gay rugby tournament the Union Cup 2013 will see 550 players from over 20 teams compete in Bristol, pumping £25,000 into the local economy

Bristol, UK will be hosting Europe’s biggest gay rugby tournament, the Union Cup 2013 on 23 – 26 May.

This year 550 gay rugby players from teams including Stockholm, Berlin, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Dublin will travel to Bristol to compete, bringing an estimated £25,000 to the city's local economy.

Tournament director David Arid said: ‘The idea of a gay and gay-friendly rugby club is to provide an accepting environment in which players can develop their sporting potential without fear of prejudice.

A politician is fighting to become the UK’s first transgender MP.

Rianna Humble, who is also a lesbian, is in the running to become the Labour parliamentary candidate for either Hove or Brighton Kemptown.

If chosen, she will then attempt to unseat one of the Conservatives at the 2015 General Election.

Excitement is starting to build for Manchester Pride 2013, one of the most popular LGBT celebrations in Britain, after the event's launch.

Patrons, friends, trustees and media supporters of the organisation gathered for an exclusive look at what can be expected from this year’s Manchester Pride, which begins on 16 August. 

It has been announced the theme for this year’s parade is Acceptable in the 80s.

Bristol Pride bosses announce plans for party on 13 July and call for financial support from the community

LGBT people in Bristol, south-west England, can look forward to a week-long festival followed by a park-based party for pride this year.

The festival of comedy, dance, theatre, film and performance from 6 July will culminate in a festival on 13 July at the Castle Park – within easy reach of the train and bus stations and close to the city’s main shopping center.

Transgender and gay housemates say they were turned away from job cleaning local council offices in southern England

A trans person and a gay man claim they were turned away from a cleaning job at a council office in southern England because the bosses were ‘expecting women’.

Now they are considering action against the employer – Morgan Sindall Plc, a major UK construction and contract group. The firm however, denies wrongdoing, suggesting an alternative explanation for the alleged discrimination.

Fans of Brighton and Hove Albion want Britain’s Football Association and others to take gay hate more seriously as report reveals it blights most games

Most of Brighton and Hove Albion soccer club’s games have been marred by homophobia in the 2012 to 2013 season.

The city of Brighton, on the south coast of England, is famous for its large LGBT population putting its football club on the frontline of the battle against gay hate in sport.

Now a new report says the club’s fans – gay and straight – have been the victim of homophobia by at least 68% of opponents they have faced this season, in at least two thirds of away games and in 53% of all their matches in 2012 to 2013.

Manchester’s gay pride celebration is staging an evening of live music in the shadow of legendary airplane, Concorde

UK’s Manchester Pride is gearing up for Supersonic – a luxurious evening of live music and a gourmet dinner.

The evening is to be held at Manchester Airport in north-west England on Saturday (6 April), and hosted by Concorde, the legendary supersonic plane, in its hangar.

Acts appearing include UK pop band The Feeling, and Manchester based Soul singer, Ren Harvieu.

A 21-year-old man was left 'devastated' after being attacked by a man in the northern English city's center

A young man was robbed and raped in Manchester city center on 16 March.

The 21-year-old victim was walking home at around 3am when a man threatened him with a bottle, demanding his mobile phone and cash. 

After giving away his valuables, in the busy area near London Road, Piccadilly, the man was then raped.

Manchester Police Detective Inspector Damian Simpson said the 21-year-old was left ‘devastated’ by this attack.

Core Issues Trust wants to force Transport For London to carry adverts saying 'Not gay! Post-gay, ex-gay and proud. Get over it!'

A ban on a bus advert claiming gay people can be ‘cured’ is a ‘deep threat to democracy, the High Court has heard.

Christian group Core Issues Trust, who created an advert last year but was banned by London mayor Boris Johnson, say the decision stifled their freedom of expression.

A British soccer player is being investigated by police after allegedly making anti gay gestures.

Colin-Kazim Richards, 26, who currently plays for Championship team Blackburn Rovers, is being accused of making homophobic gestures towards fans in a match against Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday (12 February ).

UK talent show singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan has been confirmed to headline the LGBT student event at Brighton Dome Corn Exchange in March

X Factor star Lucy Spraggan has been confirmed as headline act at the Brighton Dome Corn Exchange for Britain's National Student Pride.

The English talent show star will perform as part of Student Pride's annual weekend of club nights, debates and live music on 1 to 3 March in the seaside city of Brighton on the south coast.

A number of other celebrity names have also been confirmed to appear at the event, including Dragon's Den and BBC Radio 4 presenter Evan Davies and former England Rugby Union international and World Cup winner Ben Cohen.

The Brighton Dome will play host to the return of National Student Pride on 1 to 3 March.

The annual event, supported by Gay Star News, will feature live music, club nights, a question time panel and a debate on homophobia in sports, giving students the chance to socialize, debate and party.

Organizers hope students from across the UK will spend the weekend in the seaside city of Brighton on England's south coast for the event.

Continuing our series of getting to know the world’s LGBT sports clubs, we catch up with Mark Hillier - one of the group organizers for the Moseley Shoals, the LGBT aquatics club in Birmingham, England.

When was the Moseley Shoals club established?

We were established in April 2000, growing to two weekly training sessions in 2004, then three weekly sessions in 2008, and subsequently adding water polo (the Birmingham Bluefins).

A 19-year-old who told a gay couple they were 'worse than animals' and '2000 years ago you would have been killed' is in prison

A British teen who hurled homophobic abuse at two gay men on a train was jailed yesterday (7 December).

Ishmail Iqba, 19, will be in imprisoned for 18 weeks after he was found guilty of the verbal onslaught at an earlier hearing.

On 3 August, Blackpool Magistrates Court heard how he had travelled with a group of friends on a Northern Rail service from Wigan to Blackpool North.

During the journey, Iqbal and his friends were heard by a gay man who was offended by the homophobic language and asked the group to stop.

Conservative politician Nadine Dorries to face questioning on her return to the UK after flying to Australia to star in reality TV show

Nadine Dorries, the British Member of Parliament to appear on reality show I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here, has been suspended by the Conservative Party.

The anti-gay politician caused controversy when it was revealed she had left for the Australian jungle without consulting her peers yesterday (6 November).

The party believe that the mid-Bedfordshire MP would be unable to fulfil her role and support her constituency whilst away as she could be out of the UK for up to a month.

A homophobe threatening violence to two men on a train from Blackpool to Manchester, northern England, was captured on video phone.

The two men were ‘kind of cuddled up’ at Blackpool North train station when the homophobe in the video started ‘hurling abuse’, the description on YouTube by Tyrone Ruscoe, one of the victims, says.

Brighton and Hove Council, in south-east England, say no proposals have been made to scrap Mr and Mrs titles on forms

Brighton and Hove Council have denied they plan to ban the use of Mr and Mrs on official forms after it found itself at the centre of a national media frenzy.

Reports in The Mirror and Daily Mail accused the coastal city in south-east England of 'political correctness gone mad' for its 'barmy' proposals.

But in the Green Party led council's official response, they insist that no proposals have yet been put together.

Police are urgently appealing for help after a man in his 30s was attacked in the early hours of this morning

A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with life-threatening head injuries after an attack in Brighton's gay quarter.

The victim was assaulted in the very early hours of this morning (26 October) in the area around St James's Street and was admitted to Royal Sussex County Hospital.

A scene guard from Sussex Police remains in the area while officers carry out forensic examinations and speak to locals.

Brighton Pride organizers have responded to a headliner cancelling, and claims of kettling from Queers Against Cuts

Pop star and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke cancelled her performance at Brighton and Hove Pride on Saturday (1 September).

The ‘Bad Boys’ singer, who was a headline act for the gay festival held in the British seaside city, pulled out after her technical team said they were unsatisfied with the venue.

Director of Brighton and Hove Pride Trevor Edwards told Gay Star News negotiations had broken down in the late afternoon after her management’s new requirements could not be accommodated.

Pride organizers defend Sussex Police after accused of 'kettling' anti-government group Queers Against Cuts during the parade

Police have hailed Brighton Pride a 'great success' despite arresting 40 people over theft, drugs, being drunk and disorderly, common assault or affray.

Only five people were charged in total and Brighton and Hove Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett, said the 'vast majority' of revellers at Saturday's (1 September) event enjoyed themselves and would take away 'fond memories'.

'Given the sheer size of the event, I would say that the day was a great success,' he said.
