London gay film festival bursts into spring

BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival returns to the UK capital’s Southbank for 11 days of international queer cinema

London’s annual gay film festival will return this spring with 11 days of the best in queer cinema from around the world.

From 14 March to 24 March 2013, the BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival will take over the BFI Southbank cinema in the UK capital.

As well as the reliably glamorous opening and closing night special screenings, film fans will be able to enjoy sponsored galas and a full supporting program of special on-stage events, weekend late bars, DJs and a new BFI Mediatheque collection.

'Brave' lesbian dramedy to open gay film festival

Lesbian movie starring Oscar winners Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker will open the BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival

A movie about a pair of older lesbian lovers, starring Oscar-winning actresses Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker, will open this year's BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

Thom Fitzgerald's Cloudburst, a dramedy which claims to break new ground with its depiction of gay women in their 70s, will be screened at the opening night of the UK capital's annual LGBT film event on 23 March.

London film festival to bounce back in 2012

London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival will be back to 10 days after funding cuts last year

Film fans are in for a treat in 2012 as the BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival bounces back with 10 days of programming.

Arts funding cuts across Britain plagued last year’s festival, meaning that it had to be cut to just six days.

But after cinemas ran at a record-breaking 89% capacity with 16,000 admissions last year the 26th festival will be extended to incorporate two weekends.
