I’d had one of those weeks where nothing seemed to be going my way. In a classic example of ‘fight or flight’, the only thing keeping me going was the prospect of a weekend away and a bit of distance from any potential aggravation. ‘Flight’ never really solves anything but it is at least a distraction.

Mom begs the public for her dead gay son's final moments

A man from Derry, Northern Ireland, has been found dead in his home shortly after being attacked

A grieving mother in Northern Ireland is pleading for the public's help in tracing the final moments of her gay son.

Terry McCartney, 42, was found dead at his flat in Londonderry at 10am on 6 February.

A well-known gay activist, McCartney was involved in a fight with a group of men hours before his death, during which he was punched to the ground.

After the post-mortem, police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Calls for Poots to quit over gay blood donation row

Protesters in Londonderry urge for 'biased and illogical' ban on gay blood donations to be lifted in Northern Ireland

Protesters have called on Northern Ireland's health minister Edwin Poots to resign over his refusal to lift a ban on gay people donating blood.

LGBT rights activists shouted 'Give Poots the boot' outside a blood donation session in Londonderry on Saturday (4 August).

They then went inside to offer their blood, which the health service in Northern Ireland is still not allowed to accept, despite restrictions on gay donors being eased in the rest of the UK.
