It was nearly nine years ago that then CNN Headline News anchor Thomas Roberts came out publicly as a gay man at a gathering of fellow journalists in Miami.

His career suffered some setbacks after he went public but it is now in high gear with Roberts anchoring a two-hour show on MSNBC each weekday that has helped the network's ratings grow in the time period.

'This is simply about protecting the essential religious freedom rights in the First Amendment'

A bill is working its way in Louisiana's state house that will eclipse anything in Indiana's freedom of religion law.

According to MSNBC HB 707, the Marriage and Conscience Act. is being considered by the state's congress.

If passed the measure would protect state workers from punishment who do not want to process papers for same-sex marriages.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, who has become increasingly vocal on LGBTI issues in the past year, tops this years' Annual Power 50 list unveiled Wednesday by Out Magazine.

The list ranks the most influential LGBTI voices in American culture and looks at how the on the list have power, how they wield it, and who it affects.

Cook, second last year, is the only openly gay CEO in the Fortune 500. He knocked Ellen DeGeneres down one space after the talk show host headed last year's list.

He suggests that it's Republican Senator Dan Cotton who actually needs to get some perspective

Dan Savage has hit back at Senator Tom Cotton's claims that gay people need to get perspective and stop being so outraged by the religious freedom laws in the US.

During an appearance on MSNBC, Savage said that politicians such as Cotton argue that LGBTI rights are far worse elsewhere in the world just so they can justify making it worse in their own country.

Openly gay anchor took over two hour block formerly occupied by Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid

No one can say that Thomas Roberts hasn't paid his dues.

For more than a year, the newsman rose well before dawn to host MSNBC's Way to Early and to appear on the show that follows it, Morning Joe.

But three weeks ago, Roberts was moved to the afternoon shift on the cable network to take over a two-hour time block that had been formerly occupied by Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid.

In his first two-and-a-half weeks, Roberts has quickly more than doubled the ratings of Farrow and Reid who have been given other assignments at MSNBC.

For a magazine named InTouch, its latest cover seems extremely out of touch.

The current issue of US celebrity gossip magazine InTouch has a photoshopped version of Bruce Jenner on the cover.

Jenner, former gold Olympic medallist but best known as the stepfather of US socialite Kim Kardashian, appears on the cover with lipstick and in women’s clothing. The headline reads: ‘Bruce’s Story: My life as a woman.’

Comedian guest Sam Seder brought up the topic of gay marriage by saying how difficult it must have been for an Iowa lesbian couple to have to wait for 72 years before they got married over the summer.

Hayes and his guests then expressed one after another how the US has already reached a tipping point and built a supportive consensus.

Transgender author launches a new weekly culture show

Transgender author Janet Mock got engaged to her boyfriend of five years this weekend, days after launching her own culture show on MSNBC.

'I said YES,' she tweeted on Sunday (21 December).

Mock met New York photographer Aaron Tredwell in 2009 at a bar in Manhattan where she caught him looking at her while she twirled on the dancefloor.

'He's a fantasy come true, and I want him to want me,' she wrote on XOJane about their first encounter.

The White Collar star is one of the latest celebrities to agree to participate in The Ice Bucket Challenge which got started on social media as a way to raise awareness and money for ALS.

ALS is the neurodegenerative condition also referred to as Lou Gherig’s disease.

The US state of Arizona is arguing its gay marriage ban protects children, procreation, and straight parents.

Attorneys for the state filed papers in the District Court for Arizona this past Wednesday (23 July).  The legal team maintains the prohibition has nothing to do with LGBTI citizens.

Boosted by her triumph hosting the Academy Awards last month, Ellen DeGeneres has landed atop Out Magazine's 8th annual Power 50 list which ranks of the most influential LGBTI voices in American culture.

DeDeneres, who finished second on the list last year, moved up a spot based in the Oscars which were the highest rated Academy Awards telecast in a decade and resulted in the temporary crashing of Twitter due to the host's all-star selfie.
