Lesbian and bisexual women warned of deadly cervical cancer risk

Lesbian and bisexual women urged to come forward for HPV testing and not to take no for an answer from healthcare professionals

Lesbian and bisexual women are risking their lives because they are not being tested for cervical cancer – and often doctors even tell them they don't need to be.

It's one of the issues LGBT health experts want to highlight as Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust marks Cervical Screening Awareness Week (CSAW).

Other lesbian and bi women believe they may not be at risk – or are worried about being tested because they don't want to reveal their sexual orientation.

Cervical Cancer Prevention Week launches to raise awareness of the disease in the lesbian and bisexual community

Cervical Cancer Prevention Week will place across Europe on 20 to 26 January, with the hopes it will raise awareness among lesbian and bisexual women.

The European Cervical Cancer Association intends to use the week to dispel myths about the disease, and to educate on its causes and methods of prevention.

The Lesbian and Gay Foundation (LGF) in north west England are highlighting the need for all lesbian and bisexual women to attend regular cervical screenings.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week (CSAW) from 10 to 16 June, is a UK wide scheme lead by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, the UK’s only dedicated cervical cancer charity.
