Sexually assaulted at gunpoint, then taken to five nearby ATMs to withdraw cash

A 34-year-old Canadian man was sexually assaulted, beaten and robbed by a man he invited to his hotel room in Philadelphia, US after talking with him on the gay hookup app Grindr.

The victim, who did not want to be identified by NBC Philadelphia, was in the city to attend an education conference when he invited the suspect to his Hilton Home2 Suites hotel room around 1.30 pm on Wednesday.

Ceremony between two men on daytime soap includes heartfelt speech by a great-grandmother

When Sonny Kiriakis and Will Horton tied the knot on NBC's Days of Our Lives this week, they made daytime television history - and a statement about family.

Theirs was the first same-sex wedding ceremony between two men on a US daytime soap opera and the families of both grooms were in full support of the union.

'This is a world where we could really know who our boys are - and they can love each other,' Will's great-grandmother Caroline (Peggy McKay) says during an emotional speech where she recalls two gay men from her distant past who were forced to hide.

Long-awaited historic gay wedding between two men to take place on US daytime soap - see preview

US daytime soap history is about to be made this week on NBC's Days of Our Lives with the wedding of Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis.

Beginning Tuesday (1 April), the couple's wedding will begin to play out in the fictional town of Salem - a Midwestern US city in a state that has never been specified.

It will be the first wedding between two male characters. The now-canceled All My Children on ABC had the very first same-sex nuptials between two lesbian characters in 2009.

Former US Senator Rick Santorum applauds Pope Francis for his leadership of the Catholic Church.

The Republican, who is against same-sex marriage and open service in the military, was a guest on the NBC News show Meet the Press.

According to Talking Points Memo, host David Gregory asked Santorum what he felt about the pope's lack of emphasis on issues like abortion and gay marriage.

Christopher Meloni attracted a huge gay fan base during the years that he played bisexual killer Chris Keller on the HBO prison drama Oz. (see video below)

The series has been off the air for 11 years but the gay fans have remained loyal to the hunky actor who also starred on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for more than a decade.

The TV fitness trainer went public to help self-loathing contestant know 'it's okay to be gay'

When Bob Harper, a trainer on NBC's The Biggest Loser, showed up at the Human Rights Campaign gala in Los Angeles on Saturday (22 March), it was a significant event in his life.

It marked Harper's first appearance at an LGBTI event since he came out publicly as a gay man on the show last fall.

He told Gay Star News on the arrivals carpet: 'I came here last year before I'd come out and I was asked, "Well I'm assuming that you're straight" and I'm like "Why would you assume that?"'

Openly gay CNN anchor Anderson Cooper paid a visit to Seth Meyers' new NBC late night talk show on Monday and shared with viewers why he once thought the host was gay.

It seems Cooper, a well-known gym rat, once saw the former Saturday Night Live writer and news anchor at a gym in Manhattan and jumped to conclusions.

'It was pretty much the gayest gym on the planet,' Cooper said, 'And I assumed you were gay, ’cause… there weren’t a lot of other reasons to be there.'

Out actor says: ‘I gotta represent with some gay sex on the show. I’m willing!'

Andrew Rannells knows what he wants for his character of Elijah in the fourth season of HBO's Girls.

He wants sex.

The openly gay actor was able to return to the series for part of season three after NBC canceled his sitcom The New Normal in which he played one-half of a gay couple expecting a baby via surrogate.

His Girls character is far less domestic.

When asked this week what viewers can expect in the next season Rannells teased that 'I might be not dressed in it.'

New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan warned that Pope Francis' recent comments about civil unions does not mean the pontiff has decided to change church doctrine.

In a 9 March interview on the NBC News program Meet the Press, Dolan pointed out the pope was asking an open ended question.

Bravo's Watch What Happens Live host says his 'blood boils' whenever he sees Putin on TV

Andy Cohen, the openly gay host of Bravo channel's What What Happens Live talk show, refered to Russian President Vladimir Putin as a 'bastard' in an interview over the weekend.

During a piece on LGBTI equality on NBC's Meet the Press, Cohen was asked about Putin inadvertently hugging a gay gold medal speed skater from Holland.

Replied Cohen: 'We all get carried away in the magic and pageantry of the Olympics. I mean, wouldn’t it be great if that bastard did too? I mean, it would be. He put on a huge show. Learn something from it.'

Monica Raymund, one of the stars of the NBC drama Chicago Fire, tweeted about a Norwegian artist’s protest against Russia’s anti-LGBT policies the other day.

But it is her follow-up tweet that is getting all the attention.

'So proud to be Bi and excited about this movement during Olympics,' she wrote.

When asked by a followers if this was her public coming out the actress replied: ‘Nope I didn’t just come out – you just late to the party. But I have drinks for all y’all.'

GLAAD praises spots as truly reflecting 'the fabric of our nation, which today includes gay and lesbian families'

The Russian government may be busy cracking down on any public display of support of homosexuality as the Olympics kick off in Sochi, but it has no control over what airs on NBC.

The US broadcaster of the 2014 Winter Olympics aired two commercials from car company Chevrolet that could never air in Russia due to its anti-gay propaganda law.

They feature families with same-sex couples and aired during NBC's tape-delayed telecast of opening ceremonies which took place earlier in the day on Friday (7 February).

One Big Happy will try to make network's schedule and succeed where Sean Saves the World and The New Normal did not

It was back in 1997 that the character Ellen DeGeneres played on her self-titled ABC sitcom came out as a lesbian.

DeGeneres, now one of television's top talk show hosts, is returning to her sitcom roots but behind the scenes this time.

DeGeneres is one of the executive producers of One Big Happy, a comedy pilot ordered by NBC this week.

The comedy is about a lesbian and her straight male best friend who decide to have a baby together. But things get a bit complicated when during this process, one of them meets the love of their life.

Sean Saves the World has struggled in ratings along with rest of network's Thursday night line-up

NBC has stopped production of the Sean Hayes sitcom Sean Saves the World after just 12 episodes have aired.

Hayes sent out a tweet Tuesday (28 January) thanking NBC for a 'wonderful opportunity' as well as the show's cast and crew which included Linda Lavin as his mother and Megan Hilty as his best friend.

'Looking forward to Obama's minimum wage increase to $10/hr,' Hayes tweeted.

Openly lesbian tennis legend Billie Jean King has told NBC’s Meet The Press that she believes there will be a gay President of the United States one day – but not in her lifetime

Billie Jean King has said that she believes there will be an openly gay or lesbian President of the United States ahead of her trip to Russia for the Sochi Winter Olympics.

‘Not in my lifetime, but I think there will be some day,’ King told NBC’s Harry Smith.

However she was more optimistic about the chances that she would see a female president elected before she dies.

‘From your lips to God’s ears, please Harry, please – we have to have a woman president,’ King said.

While I will continue to argue the African American community doesn’t have a patent on homophobia, it does, however, have a problem with it.

Black homophobia still has a deadly hold on African American life. And while I would like to say its oppressive grip only impacts lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people of African descent, in truth, black homophobia maims the entire community.

For example, to date more than a quarter of a million African Americans have died of AIDS – both straight and gay.

Lesbian tennis legend is part of official US delegation and says: 'You've got to go for it and go'

Billie Jean King is ready to represent the US as part of the official delegation at the Olympics in Sochi next month - and she's no longer afraid for her safety.

The trailblazing tennis legend had initially expressed safety concerns and said she planned to remain 'alert' at all times.

But in an interview on NBC's Today Show this morning, she told Matt Lauer she is ready to focus on the athletes once she gets to the competition in the Russian city.

Figure skater part of US delegation to Olympics in Russia 25 years after winning gold medal

Brian Bointano says he decided 'in a matter of 10 hours' to come out publicly last month after 25 years in the public eye.

Boitano had been chosen by President Barack Obama to be a part of the official US delegation to the Olympics in Sochi and he knew it was probably time to speak up.

The 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist in figure skating had never before publicly confirmed that he is gay.

On 2 January, viewers of the popular NBC soap Days of Our Lives will see Chandler Massey in the role of Will Horton for the last time.

The two-time Emmy winner played for the role for nearly four years - through Will's denial of being gay, his coming out to himself then to the whole town then falling in love with his friend Sonny Kiriakis.

Will also was charged with murder along the way, got shot and also got his ex-girlfriend pregnant.

New Yorker Editor David Remnick is an expert on Russia

NBC's coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics in will now include New Yorker editor David Remnick focusing on Russia's politics including the country's anti-gay propaganda law.

Remnick is an expert on Russia writing pieces for The New Yorker about Russian politics and culture. He is the former Moscow bureau chief for the Washington Post.

'David is a distinguished journalist who knows Russia very well, and we’re excited to have his expertise on the host country for our Sochi coverage,' Jim Bell, executive producer, NBC Olympics, said in a statement.
