Rosie O'Donnell returned to ABC's The View this week weighing more than 50 pounds less than she did the last time she co-hosted the show back in 2007.

But it's been an emotional adjustment for the star.

She suffered a heart attack in 2012 then earlier this year, underwent a vertical gastric sleeve procedure that helped her reach a healthier weight.

Norman Fowler apologizes for the law that banned the 'promotion' of homosexuality in schools

A long-serving member of Margaret Thatcher’s cabinet has apologized for the controversial Section 28 which banned the 'promotion' of homosexuality in schools.

Former health minister Lord Norman Fowler told the Evening Standard, ‘We have come a long way. It [Section 28] was a great mistake and I think it’s now recognized as a great mistake and I would apologize for it. It was totally misjudged.’

The law was repealed in 2003.

A star-sudded crowd got an early look this week at the first two episodes of the new series Transparent, a dramedy about an LA man with three grown children who is transitioning to female.

Series lead Jeffrey Tambor told Gay Star News on the red carpet of a premiere screening at the Ace Hotel in downtown LA that he has had a lot help from the LGBT community in learning and in preparing for his role.

‘This is important, this is a part of a lifetime,’ he said. ‘This is why you went into acting.’

O'Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace join Whoopi Goldberg and draw 3.9 million viewers

ABC's daytime chat show The View returned to the air with new episodes on Monday (15 September) with a new line-up of co-hosts and scored its highest ratings in eight years.

Whoopi Goldberg is the only holdover in an overhaul for the show's 18th season that includes new co-hosts, a new set in a new studio and a new executive producer.

Goldberg was joined by former co-host Rosie O'Donnell who had left the show after one fiery season back in 2006-07 as well as actress Rosie Perez and conservative author and commentator Nicolle Wallace.

Neither funny lady knows the words to the tune but both go all out anyway

It was kind of like what you might hear at a karaoke bar - only worse.

Funny ladies Ellen DeGeneres and Kristen Wiig decided to duet on the Oscar-winning song Let it Go from Disney's animated smash Frozen on Ellen's daytime show.

The fact that neither one knew the words did not deter them from giving it a go.

The results aren't anything that will end up on iTunes anytime soon but no one can say they aren't fearless.

Fellow comic reflects on her friend's sendoff which she says 'put the fun back in funeral'

Margret Cho was among the guests at Joan Rivers' funeral in New York City last Sunday (7 September) and she says it was unlike any sendoff she had ever attended.

'I’ve never been to a funeral like that,' Cho said this week on Larry King Now. 'I think Joan Rivers really put the fun in funeral.

“It was also the best place to be if you were a good-looking gay man, because there was the richest gay men in the world all coming together. If I was a gay man, I would have definitely kept my Grindr turned on.'

When Rosie O'Donnell returns to ABC's The View on Monday (15 September), she will join a revamped show that has her co-hosting with a returning Whoopi Goldberg and newcomers Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace.

One person who won't be there will be Elisabeth Hasselbeck whose on-air clash with O'Donnell in 2007 was so traumatic (see video below) that O'Donnell left the show nearly a month before her one-year contract had expired.

Sara Gilbert shared some big news with the audience of The Talk this week: she's pregnant.

This will be Gilbert's third child but her first with wife Linda Perry who she married earlier this year.

Her co-hosts seemed genuinely surprised as Gilbert revealed her pregnancy during a facing your fears segment of the show.

The one-time Roseanne cast member was discussing how she had been dared to stretch out over a bed of nails and allow a cinder block to be broken over her stomach.

Joan Rivers got some laughs at Gloria Vanderbilt's expense back in the 70s and 80s but one person who wasn't laughing was the fashion icon's son.

That son grew up to be CNN anchor Anderson Cooper who recalled that period during a segment of his show Thursday (4 September) devoted to Rivers who had died earlier in the day.

'As a kid, I didn’t like her, because she actually made fun of my mom in some jokes when my mom was doing the jeans and stuff,' Cooper confessed.

'... As a little kid, I found it upsetting to see her making fun of my mom.'

Daughter says mother being 'kept comfortable'

The daughter of Joan Rivers on Wednesday (3 September) provided a brief update on the medical condition of her 81-year-old mother who has been unconscious for six days.

'My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable,' Melissa Rivers said in a statement.

'Thank you for your continued support.'

The update comes a day after the daughter of the legendary comic said that her mother remains on life support and asked for continued prayers.
