Men and women who have a repressed attraction to the same sex and grew up with authoritarian parents are far more likely to be homophobic, according to a recent study.
In a series of psychological studies, it found men and women who identify as straight but in tests show to have a strong attraction to gay imagery are more likely to hate and fear proud gay and lesbian people.
It also suggested that people who grow up with authoritarian parents who forbade these desires are more likely to endorse anti-gay policies.
