British National Party Nick Griffin’s body was arrested over accusations of anti-gay abuse at the weekend.

Martin Reynolds, 46, was taken into police custody following a fundraising event for the far-right party on Saturday night (15 March).

The BNP opposes same-sex marriage, adoption by gay couples and leader Griffin has described gay people as ‘poofs’ and ‘creepy’.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called after a woman complained a man made a homophobic comment to her.

The debate at Oxford University in southern England, one of the world's most famous educational establishments, will take place on Thursday (17 January) with well-known homophobes Scott Lively, Winston McKenzie and Peter D Williams invited to take part.
