DeMulder, a finalist in the competition, delivered a powerful spoken word performance that focused on the congresswoman's anti-gay rhetoric and the work of her husband, Marcus Bachmann, with an 'ex-gay' clinic in Minnesota.

Chairman of the Estonian Writers’ Union, broadcaster and poet Karl Martin Sinijärv has called for the legal recognition of same-sex relationships in the former Soviet state in response to comments from a homophobic MP

A leading Estonian intellectual has called for the legal recognition of same-sex relationship and says it could even be useful to recognize non-sexual dependent relationships between heterosexual friends.

Chairman of the Estonian Writers’ Union and poet Karl Martin Sinijärv made the call in response to comments from IRL party MP Erki Nool that homosexuals should be avoided and given medical treatment.

'You never see a gay actor getting asked what it’s like to play straight'

Daniel Radcliffe has been working hard to leave Harry Potter behind in recent years from his lead role in the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying to his role in the horror flick The Woman in Black.

But it is his latest film, Kill Your Darlings, that is his biggest departure from the boy wizard that made him a household name.

Radcliffe plays young Allen Ginsberg, the famed gay American poet, and participates in some unflinching scenes of gay sex.

The list of the UK's 100 most powerful women was compiled by BBC Radio 4's Women's Hour

Lesbian broadcaster Clare Balding has been lited among the most powerful women in the UK for 2013.

Also nominated is Britain's poet laureate and lesbian Carol Ann Duffy.

The Women's Hour Power list, compiled by a judging panel from BBC Radio 4, was topped by Queen Elizabeth II.

It was only ranked from one to 20, with Balding and Duffy among the 100-strong list.

Radcliffe speaks about ‘intimate’ sex scene and kiss with Dane DeHaan in new movie about Allan Ginsberg and beat generation, Kill Your Darlings

Daniel Radcliffe wants his gay kiss with actor Dane DeHaan to win the MTV Best Kiss trophy at this year’s Movie Awards and to be immortalized for all time.

Radcliffe said it will be ‘cool’ for the ‘sincere, passionate and romantic’ kiss in his new movie, Kill Your Darlings, to win the award. He believes a gay kiss has never won before.

In the film, Radcliffe plays gay beat poet Allan Ginsberg who falls in love with Lucien Carr, another key member of the beat generation, played by DeHaan.

The Harry Potter star on American men, gay sex scenes and new film Kill Your Darlings

Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has joked about Englishmen being seen as gay while filming for his new role as American beat poet Allen Gisberg in Kill Your Darlings.

On acting and living in America, Radcliffe told Out Magazine: 'I was talking to someone about this and I said, "Why is it that when people meet English men in America they automatically think they're gay?"

'It's just amazing how things have changed'

Richard Blanco had already made history as the first gay and first Latino inaugural poet in US history when he stepped onto the podium Monday (21 January) to deliver his poem One Today.

But he had no idea that day would be so history making in other ways in the fight for LGBT equality. President Barack Obama likened to the gay rights movement's Stonewall Riots to the civil rights milestones Seneca Falls (women's equality) and Selma (black equality).

As the Kremlin moves forward with a nationwide anti-gay bill, around 10 gay activists were beaten up in Voronezh

Gay activists were beaten up by an angry crowd during an authorized protest on Sunday (20 January).

In the city of Voronezh in southwest Russia, gay rights activists held a protest against a nationwide homophobia bill that will be discussed in parliament soon.

Several hundred people opposing gay rights gathered near a monument to poet Ivan Nikitin to seal off all approaches to it to prevent the picket from taking place.

When about ten gay activists appeared, the crowd pelted them with snowballs and then beat them up.

Richard Blanco is first gay person and first Latino to be inaugural poet

Richard Blanco followed on the footsteps of such celebrated American poets as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou on Monday (21 January) when he delivered a poem at the second inauguration of US President Barack Obama.

Blanco is a 44-year-old man from Maine,  is the first gay man and first Latino chosen as inaugural poet.

Daniel Radcliffe stars as Allen Ginsberg in the Sundance Film Festival premiere of Kill Your Darlings 

Daniel Radcliffe distances himself further from his Harry Potter image by taking on a role that involves drugs, death and gay sex.

Premiering today at the Sundance Film Festival, Kill Your Darlings casts Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg, American poet and one of the leading figures of the Beat generation in the 1950s.

Director John Krokidas explained that Radcliffe's character starts as a dutiful son who spends his time taking care of others but eventually spills over with repressed passion.

Richard Blanco to joins the ranks of such past inaugural poets as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou

Robert Blanco has been chosen to do what such celebrated American poets as Robert Frost and Maya Angelo have in the past: write an original poem and recite it at the inauguration of a US president.

But Blanco has made history by being the first openly gay man chosen, the first Latino, and at 44, he is the youngest inaugural poet ever.

Blanco, a resident of Maine, will recite his poem at the swearing in of President Barack Obama on 21 January in Washington DC.

Five Filipino LGBT writers took part in a panel discussion about their work as part of the Philippine International Literary Festival in Manila last Friday.

Writers Ian Casocot, Nerisa del Carmen Guevara, Ralph Semino Galan and Johanna Lynn Cruz answered questions about their work.

The panel was facilitated by J. Neil. C. Garcia, director of the University of Philippines Press, poet and author of Philippine Gay Culture (1996, republished by Hong Kong University Press 2009), which has become a classic of queer scholarship in Asia.

Video campaign hopes to raise awareness of transgender issues in the US

A video campaign featuring prominent trans Americans has been launched to mark Transgender Awareness Week.

The 'I AM: Trans People Speak' videos feature New York Times bestseller Professor Jennifer Finney Boylan and actress Laverne Cox telling their own personal stories.

Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF) attorney Noah Lewis and performance poet Kit Yan also share their experiences to camera in the campaign which aims to put transgender issues in the spotlight to educate the public and speak to trans youth and adults.

France’s women’s rights minister has called for schools to teach about gay historical figures in an attempt to stop bullying.

Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, who is also the Socialist government’s spokesman, said it would help French children who are struggling with their sexuality or gender identity.

A new plaque has been placed outside the London house where Romantic poet was born in the 17th century

The descendents of bisexual Romantic poet Lord Byron will unveil a plaque outside the London house where the literary master was born in 1788.

An old wooden plaque which previously marked the house in Holles Street, now a John Lewis department store in the UK capital's iconic shopping district of Oxford Street, will be replaced with a green one.

A video campaign hopes to raise awareness of how strict new voter ID laws in the US discriminates against transgender citizens during the upcoming presidential election.

The Williams Institute at UCLA estimates that more than 25,000 transgender people could lose their right to vote as a result of revised photo ID laws, which mean some people's identification does not match their registration information.

Britain’s lesbian Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy has turned the fairytale Rapunzel into a ballet which will tour in the UK from October

A ballet written by Britain’s lesbian Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy is to go on tour in the UK from October.

Commissioned by London dance house Sadler’s Wells and choreographed by Liv Lorent, the retelling of Rapunzel will be Duffy's first foray into dance having previously written for the stage, and promises to take the fairytale back to its dark roots.

The ballet will be performed in stark contrast to Disney Pixar’s offering, Tangled released in 2010.

Britain’s lesbian poet laureate wins prize in memory of Harold Pinter

Britain’s lesbian poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy has won the 2012 Pen Pinter prize. The annual prize is awarded to any British writer or writer living in Britain of ‘outstanding literary merit’.

Awarded since 2009, the prize was set up in memory of playwright Harold Pinter who said in his Nobel prize speech that good writing should cast an ‘unflinching, unswerving’ gaze on the world and show ‘fierce intellectual determination… to define the real truth of our lives and our societies’.

Oscar winner Colin Firth will play gay playwright, actor and composer Noël Coward and the best friend and confidant of Oscar Wilde in forthcoming biopics.

In details announced at the Cannes Film Festival, the King's Speech actor is due to star as Oscar Wilde's gay friend Reginald 'Reggie' Turner in the upcoming Oscar Wilde biopic, This Happy Prince.

Duo reunite for CGI adaption of an Oscar Wilde classic

Comedy duo Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie will reunite after 13 years for CGI animated film The Canterville Ghost, it was announced at the Cannes Film Festival.

Co-produced by the studio behind animated hits Gnomeo and Juliet and 9, Arch Productions and Fry’s own company, Sprout Productions, the film is a short story written by gay poet and playwright Oscar Wilde and was first published in 1887.

Members of the Sheffield community say it's time to give Edward Carpenter the recognition he deserves.

The Friends of Edward Carpenter group in the city in South Yorkshire, England is raising funds for a memorial dedicated to the early civil rights trailblazer.

A gay activist ahead of his time, Carpenter was moving in with his partner at the same time poet Oscar Wilde was imprisoned for his sexual relations with men.Upcoming events include a benefit concert in July where folk singer Grace Petrie will perform.
