On Saturday, the San Jose Earthquakes forward called Will Johnson, a midfielder for the Portland Timbers, a ‘fucking faggot’.

Television cameras caught the incident, and he was ejected minutes before Johnson went on to score the winning goal.

Alan Gordon, the San Jose Earthquakes forward, hurled the gay slur at Will Johnson, a midfielder for the Portland Timbers.

On Sunday night (14 April), Johnson’s goal gave his team a 1-0 win.

Gordon was ejected minutes earlier by soccer officials after calling Johnson ‘faggot’.

After the match, he apologized: ‘I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone who watched tonight's match on NBC Sports Network.

Victim: 'They knew I was gay. They knew they were taller and bigger'

A gay man was beaten unconscious as his attacker repeatedly called him a faggot in Davis, California, over the weekend.

Mikey Partida, 32, had been celebrating his birthday and was leaving his cousin's house early Sunday (10 March) when the attack occurred.

Partida said a man who lived near his cousin began to verbally harass him as he was leaving the house.

He said he ignored the loud taunts of 'faggot' and quickly walked by. But then he had to turn around and go back to his cousin's house to retrieve his keys.

The Mexican Supreme Court has ruled that two popular anti-gay slurs are hate speech and are not protected under freedom of speech in the country’s constitution

Mexico’s Supreme Court has ruled that the anti-gay slurs ‘punal’ and ‘maricon,’ both roughly translating as ‘faggot,’ constitute hate speech and are not constitutionally protected free speech.

The Supreme Court judges voted 3-2 on Wednesday in a case where a publisher and his colleagues at the Synthesis newspaper had been slandered with both terms in a column by a journalist at a rival newspaper named Intolerance.

Both newspapers are based in the state of Puebla.

Openly gay *NSYNC star Lance Bass has attacked Chris Brown after it was alleged he called Frank Ocean ‘faggot’ during their brawl last month.

The two R&B singers fought in Los Angeles in January allegedly over a parking space, with Ocean being named by police as the victim.

Bass said as a black man Brown should realize when it comes to ‘very derogatory’ words, he should know the slur was ‘definitely meant to hurt’.

Police are investigating a so-called ‘Muslim Patrol’ in London who have been harassing men for looking ‘gay’.

In video footage posted on YouTube from the weekend (19-20 January), it shows a group calling a passerby a ‘bloody fag’.

‘Hello mate, don’t you know this is a Muslim area?’ asks a male member. ‘Why you dressed like that for?’

When asked why they were bothering him, the group says: ‘Cause you’re walking through a Muslim area dressed like a fag! You need to get out of here!’

The ‘BBD’ singer reacted to criticism from the gay blogger by calling him a ‘messy faggot’.

She went on to call him ‘dickbreath’ and told him to go ‘gobble a dick’.

Referring to her various feuds with other artists, Hilton told the foul-mouthed singer: ‘Some of your music is cute, but your attention-seeking ways are pathetic and hurtful. You drag while others choose to uplift!’

American football player Ricky 'Tank' Carder has apologized for calling someone a 'faggot' on Twitter.

Despite deleting the offensive tweet on Wednesday (21 November), the Cleveland Browns linebacker initially stood by his post.

'Haters gon hate cause that’s what they do, haters don’t give respect where it should be given so I’m done arguing with you fools,' he wrote on Saturday (24 November).

But now Carder has done a U-turn, admitting he was wrong to use the homophobic slur.

The singer is reported to have attacked Lucas Peter after he asked Brown for an autograph outside a movie theater in Los Angeles on Friday (19 October).

Peter told RadarOnline that the Turn Up The Music chart topper refused to sign anything and hurled homophobic abuse when confronted about it.

However, Brown's representative claims that the allegations were untrue.

Robin Tomlin is dying of liver cancer but wants some closure on one of the most painful episodes of his life.

As a student at Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver 42 years ago, he received his yearbook and when he opened it to the page with his picture on it, there was one word printed under his name: 'Fag.'

'I feel like, emotionally, they've been beating me with a stick for 42 years,' he tells the North Shore News.

Even in this age of increased awareness via It Gets Better and other campaigns, the anti-gay slur 'faggot' continues to thrive - particularly on Twitter where it has been used in 2.4 million tweets since July.

That and other figures about such slurs were released Wednesday (26 September) by the University of Alberta’s Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services.
