Malaysian deputy education minister offends LGBT people again

Malaysia's deputy education minister has told parents 'intervention' can help lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender children 'return to the right path'.

Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi was speaking at a parenting seminar organized by teachers' group Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad, the same group who caused derision the world over for producing guidelines on how to identify LGBT children.

Malaysia plans to warn all school children of the 'threats and dangers' of being LGBT in an effort to combat the growth of the LGBT community in the country

Malaysia’s Education Ministry has plans to introduce a so-called ‘Social and Reproductive Health Education’ program in schools to warn children about what it terms the ‘dangers and threats’ of being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

‘In the past, sex education was taught indirectly through other subjects, but now the government feels that [Social and Reproductive Health Education] needs to be a special subject to tackle the rise in social problems among teens,’ said Deputy Health Minister Dr Puad Zarkashi on July 5.
